Never understood why he got the job in the first place. He was a terrible HC the first time around and the only reason that team was successful before him was Brees and Payton.

Hopefully this is the next step towards that franchise returning to complete irrelevance.

He got the job because no one else will take it with their cap situation. It’s so unbelievably bad, they’re handicapped for years.

@dawinner127 and I were just talking about this in the Kamara extension thread.

It doesn’t even seem like there’s even a path to getting under the cap in 2025 without spreading out some of the bad contracts over years. They’ve been manipulating the cap for years and it’s finally caught up to them.

They are stuck. I think they intended to “go for it all” while they had brees, and figured they’d push things down the road and take their medicine later. The problem, though, is they’ve done it so much that they literally are prevented from stopping the bleeding, because in order to get under the cap each year, they have to keep restructuring and pushing things to the next year just so they can get under this year. Then next year they have to do the same. Then the next year, and so on. They can’t get out from under it because they have to keep doing it to survive. It’s insane the mess they got themselves in.

I wonder if they just mark Carr as a post 6/1 and save 20m in 2025 and then just eat the 28 in 2026. I have no idea how they get under the cap next year.
