Imagine you are in the bookies and you have $100,000 to make a double or nothing bet on the Jets to make (or not make) playoffs - what are you putting your money on? That the Jets will make it (either as division champs or WC) or it will be yet another year in the wilderness?
So this is the perennial purgatory that Jets fans find themselves in: not wanting to root against them, but having to deal with the "just good enough to promise some hope for next year" ability of the team. When was the last truly good, legitimate SB contending JETS team? Most would say Parcells' team. Frankly, I don't think they were that great a team except that they were well coached and because of that had a "puncher's chance". Before that? Maybe Walt Michael's team. At best, that's it. And because of that sparse success, ANY kind of success is equated with the Jets having a good team. Just like a country song: When it's late night and the bar thins out, and the only girls left are the ugly ones, they all look good. Sober up Jets fans. Look in the harsh, clear light of day and see what this team really is: Pigs wearing lipstick. Maybe they'll make the playoffs, i hope they don't.
In fairness Jets had a very brutal schedule.. not team strength per se but a lot of short days and London trip. I say they will keep fighting to the end and at least get it close. Beat Patriots again, split the Bills, and split the dolphins, we may get a chance.
Not only are they not going to make the playoffs, they're not going to reach last year's win total. 6-11 or worse, here we come.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL They make no name RB's look like Jim Brown and Walter Payton (SF and last night). Najee is coming up next week. At 2-5 you are making the playoffs? DMML. Once again, our season is over WAY before Halloween.
Momentum can define a team and its players sometimes. Some otherwise mediocre teams open up the season with a very easy schedule and goes 4-1 or 5-0, that can sometimes instill the mentality that they truly are great which in turn makes them play at a much higher level. Conversely some great teams start out with a tough schedule or maybe injuries or other early setbacks, and by the time their schedule eases up they are so mentally beaten down that they start playing like they have no belief in themselves even against shittier teams. We are sitting in the latter situation, and it’s gonna take some incredible coaching to keep this team together and believing. If we fall to 2-5 I think the seams burst and the team just collapses.
I have a lot of faith in Ulbrich. I have a good feeling about him. I was concerned he would take a head coach position on another team soon.
I'll have to go dig it up but I remember saying this team will STRUGGLE to match last season's win total and I stand by that. If...that's a big IF, Tua comes back to the Dolphins you can write down TWO ass whuppins by that team. By the time they see Drake Maye for the 2nd go around with NE I would call that a toss up and, when the Jets DO beat Buffalo, it's usually the first game with the 2nd seeing the Bills absolutely hood stompin' the Jets. To surmise, depending upon who starts for Indianapolis, the only games on the schedule that look winnable are the Jaguars and NE games. Jacksonville simply looks awful right now. As I said above, "maybe" we sweep the Patriots. So, depending on Tua. The Jets "might" win 5. Those three wins coming against Jacksonville, NE and "maybe" Indianapolis. We tie last season's win total if Tua doesn't start.
