Bowers was the right pick in theory, now it was the right pick in reality too. I don't care how many qualifiers you give me, if you draft a dude at 11 and he's not a QB then he better not look lost when you have to rely on him for a whopping two games.
Some of that no doubt due to Davante Adams still nursing a phantom hamstring and deciding if he actually wants to play NFL football ever again. But it's putting him on pace to break the rookie TE receiving record. Imagine what he might be doing if he didn't have the backup QB from St. Coletta's Day School throwing him the ball.
Still blows my mind that JD didn't even consider taking Bowers. What an indictment on his talent evaluation skills.
This was another classic case of this regime thinking they are the smartest people in the room. Nevermind the fact that they basically had one year to get it all right or else they'd be out of jobs... and they STILL took the guy that won't help until next year, if at all.
Revision and I were pining hard for Bowers leading up to the draft and yet here we are. Another JD whiff. JD doesn't deserve anymore chances. He doesn't know jacksh*t about offensive football and this new passing league. In fairness to him, not one coach on the Jets does. Sad.
Bowers is already one of the best TEs in the entire league it doesnt have to be this hard. the 2-time mackey award winner was a good player to draft. go figure
Not only back to the bench, but a "thank god he's back to the bench". Total whiff. It was so so easy.
It's OK to admit when one is wrong. As of right now it's quite clear: Olu played and didn't make much difference vs replacement. Our TEs did not play well. Brock is already a top tier TE as a rookie. If I had to do it all over again today, Brock would have been the pick. Can that change going forward? Possibly. But at this time these who wanted Brock look like they knew what they were talking about and myself and others who didn't were wrong.
While Brock clearly looks like he should have been the pick, I do not want to give up on Olu just yet. He was a raw player, and a lot of mistakes I saw on film was due to coaching. He may look a lot better next year or even later this year, and we still do need a talented young OT. While Brock vs Olu debate may be over for now with Brock a clear winner, Olu is not a lost cause just yet.
To me it goes back to the circumstances. You have to do everything in your power to win NOW. You have a 40 year old QB, you're stacking talent that isn't expensive (yet) and YOU YOURSELF will be fired if you don't win. And you go with the guy who ideally never gets on the field? It was a bad decision then and an even worse one now. Bowers is already top tier at his position... a position we need help at... and Olu is struggling. You don't have to wonder if Bowers will pan out, you DO have to wonder if Olu will because he doesn't look the part at all so far.
For that same reason I wanted Olu. Rodgers was very lucky to have only two relatively small injuries after last two games. Though these injuries are not nothing. You could see on the pick 6, Rodgers was limping. Could have easily torn his knee or broke his ankle. Unfortunately, and this is also largely due to coaching, from what I have seen, infusion of Olu didn't help. He also made his fair share of mistakes. Infusion of Brock would have helped the team more overall, but unless something changes with the OL, Rodgers is dead man walking regardless. The problem wasn't just Moses being out and Olu replacing him.
I don’t care how much anyone hates Olu, he needs to be starting at LT right now. Tyron is a full on liability.
Was going to post this. Tyron Smith is dreadful. I’d also like to eliminate the Tyler Conklin useless motion. Put a fucking tightend to the left tackles side and let them chip and give the guy whose struggling some help.
Tyron Smith showed tonight exactly why he was let go by Dallas. He's washed up and a shadow of the player he once was. Fashanu should be starting at this point.
Like it or not, you need your talent and first round picks to play. If we see Smith again, see ya Joe D. So bad. We just haven’t improved our talent who plays.
They replaced one Band-Aid offensive line with another Band-Aid offensive line. It just doesn't work. Draft a bunch of O-linemen, add a free agent or two, who are still in their primes, and that's how you build the offensive line.
