Hackett's play calls in the last two games were some serious football dumbfuckery.... just predictable stupidity, We should be putting up 27+ points per game.
It's not just play calls/choices, it's play-design. I hope Downing brings some life and creativity. Save for much of the Patriots game, they've made offense look hard
@Jonathan_Vilma posted this comment in the "Fire Hackett Now" thread that I think highlights a big part of the problem: Of course the bigger problems were/are that Saleh and Hackett didn't do anything about this. Hopefully Ulbrich will be on top of this and get in Carter's face if this stuff continues. Thanks Vilma for analysis!
Listen if the guy is 10% better its and improvement over hack. Now like most of you, my hope is that he will recognize that the OL play is a major problem and tell carter to fix it or GTFO. However, while the titens O was never an O juggernaut these two were together at the Titans so maybe they will get on the same page..... I mean how do we know that Hack didn't want both schemes and that carter was tasked with implementing it.... personally, I want the to go man on man and be physical.
This all looks like a total overall change of the coaching staff for next year. If we don't have a decent run in the playoffs or we don't male it we'll see a nuclear option. Might even see if Rogers will be one and done. I've been a fan since 1960. When Sonny Werblin was forced out this organization has been mismanaged ever since.
Maybe Hackett really is the game planning gawd. Rodgers realistically did have his best season ever with the LaFleur/Hackett combo. And their second year together is probably top 3-4ish of his career. We can hope right?
I don't go that far back but I know what you are talking about. Hess was simply clueless when it came to his football team. Now, that's not a bad thing. He LOVED the Jets! Of that I'm certain. He simply didn't know football. Nor did he act like it. Unlike Johnson who "think" he's got some wealth of football knowledge by osmosis or something. Had Leon Hess not died when he did, Bill Parcells and Belicheck would have completed the job and "we" wouldn't be in this position. Of course, had I hit all the numbers + the Powerball, "I" wouldn't be in my position! LOL!!!! I think it's a foregone conclusion that the ENTIRE coaching staff is replaced next year. Unless this team goes DEEP into the playoffs, no one will be back including Ulbrich. My guess is Douglas remains. Regardless of what is said on this board by many, he's done just "enough" to remain for one more tenure, at least that is how I see it. Of course, Wood-RUFF could blow it all up and we're back to having dudes like Gase and Idzik running the show again. You just KNOW that IS going to happen. Let's face it, "we" ALL want a seasoned football guy to come in and do his thing. "WE" also know that will NEVER happen for 2 reasons: Wood-RUFF will NEVER let someone come in that has the balls to tell him off and do what needs to be done and NO ONE who values remaining in the league will come to this shit hole. This IS where coaches come to die and be sent off to pasture. If you are young, you come here to have your spirit killed and you go off and die If you are in the league, you've failed absolutely everywhere else and you are fleecing Johnson's back pocket on the way out of the league as you go off to die Sad but true and it's a recurring theme with this organization...especially since Johnson took over.
In other words, The New York Jets are the Franchise of Last Resort. The Last stop as your career circles the drain.
I suppose Downing must be an upgrade as the play-caller. Though the Ask Madden feature would also be a major upgrade.
Pretty much. That's what it's been for decades now and what it will be until the end of time. This franchise is never going to get anywhere other than to the all-time playoff drought record. The Jets would seriously have more success if they just closed the franchise than they would by continuing to put a product out there on the field.
Kind of makes you wonder who was actually scripting those opening sequences for Gase. His lawn guy, his wife. the kid around the corner, his dog?
We have nothing that’s operating behind the linebackers unless it’s a straight seam route from the tightend. We also have no crossing routes that I’ve seen other than isolated single receiver side slants. Everything’s a stop route, corner route or back shoulder which clearly isn’t working with the way Rodgers and these receivers sync up. It’s mind blowing.
Especially when you see how well the Texans and Stroud hit those intermediate crossers all day. So frustrating
The other thing is the only time in the last ten years I can remember seeing the Jets hit a legitimate bomb is that 54 yard scramble drill Wilson threw against the Titans in 2021.
