I don't subscribe to ESPN and think they're often full of it, but I thought this was at least interesting, although I'm not sure how accurate it is. uSTADIUM @uSTADIUM . @MikeClayNFL updated his 2024 NFL Unit Grades: 1) #Jets 2) #49ers 3) #Chiefs 4) #Bengals 5) #Browns —- 28) #Titans 29) #Commanders 30) #Cardinals 31) #Broncos 32) #Giants FULL GRADES: https://g.espncdn.com/s/ffldraftkit/24/NFLDK2024_CS_ClayProjections2024.pdf For comparison, here are his ratings prior to FA this year:
I saw this, this roster is loaded. People can say what they want about Joe D but noone can say he isn't trying. I for one am a huge Joe D fan, he's doing what needs to be done. Some people on this board love to list the mistakes and are justified that there has been some blunders but I can do the same thing for every GM in the league. I love when people say "well he only did that because he messed it up to begin with" but wtf else can you expect? If he makes a mistake, recognizes it and tries to fix it he than he is doing what he should do. No GM is perfect and most are far from it.
I am a homer when it comes to Jets but I can subscribe to this realistically. If Rodgers can stay healthy then we will win the AFC East and from there sky is the limit.
The third best offensive line grading with two mercenary tackles and a full unit that’s never played together (really no two players have played together on this line) is insane. 4th best QB grade with a 40 year old off a torn-ACL that’s never played with anyone on the offense also seems nuts.
If the only thing you know about our upcoming season is Aaron Rodgers will be named League MVP and Come Back Player Of The Year. With just this one tidbit of secret information, how to the Jets do this 2024 season?
Mike Clay tells us everything we need to know except how he arrived at his "projections." Was he throwing darts at a board, spaghetti at the ceiling or blind squirrels into an oak forest?
He has Rodgers ranked #5 at QB; Mahomes, Lamar, Josh Allen and Burrow ahead of him. Who else would you rank ahead of the 4 time NFL MVP (2nd most in NFL history, 1 behind Peyton Manning)?
The underlying fact you even have somebody being paid to push out completely delusional and strictly click chasing crap like that says not only a lot about the ESPN brand integrity these days, but with the sports media in general. That ultimately isn't even trying to be accurate. So no shocker it's not.
Well I guess we're upgraded from 9th overall in unit grades last season! https://x.com/MikeClayNFL/status/1664337631058993163?s=19
I mean I think he slips below the Dak, Goff, Stafford, Herbert, and maybe Tua level just for the unknown of working in this offense, injury, and age. I think we have to say Jordan Love honestly played better than Rodgers did in 2022 regardless of the thumb and all. So did Purdy and Tua even though they’ve both heavily dependent on the system it seems.
The idea that we're supposed to assume that this guy is going to play MVP form over 40 and coming off a catastrophic injury... seems like a little too much pie in the sky.
And it appears he learns in other ways too. For example, now we all now know he should have taken Wirfs over Becton. Yes, his first round pick this year was a correction of that. BUT it was also a correction in other ways. He took the high character good guy Fashanu over the combine darling (Insert name here).
Not worth wasting a lot of time arguing over off season rankings, or forecasting AR performance based on the 22 performance, while ignoring his injury and previous year performance because of age. I’m going to let season dictate, short of injury, what level of performance we will get from AR. I fully expect a playoff contender with this roster. Time will tell.
This guy knows the dark arts of cursing the Jets, feeling good about the team. The less of you yankers that thought we were going to be good, maybe we wouldn't be this cursed.
