What do you expect him to say? His robotic dribbling of cliches doesn't end with talking about Z Wilson - "I believe he's going to have a hell of a career."
Agree. Playing few snaps is no indication of a player talent. McDonald is a very good football player that will be an asset for us. Gholston was NOT a football player. That stat means nothing. People are pissed at the pick because we all wanted an OL. Is not a reflection on MacDonald. Another worthless piece of media information.
He's trotted Zach Wilson out there time and time again after it's been obvious that he's not the guy for the job over the course of multiple seasons now. If McDonald is even halfway decent, why isn't he getting a lot more reps in a season that has been lost now for over a month (at least)?
Playing few snaps is *no* indication of a player's talent? Come on lol. It might mean a lot and it might mean a little but it absolutely is some indication.
BS. When he is there he plays well. It’s the classic CS keeping the vets to the max. Same thing with JJ last year and same comments were made then. Comparisons to Gholston are insaly ridiculous based on snaps.
Season in the books : 11 games, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble. Certainly a slow start, but not a complete disaster. I'm hopeful he's on the same trajectory as JJ and comes into the '24 season with a lot to prove type mindset.
He has 3 more sacks in his rookie campaign than Gholston had in his entire career. A marked improvement, I say!
The big tell will be what the Jets do with Huff in the offseason. If the Jets don't trade Huff, that's evidence that mcDonald was an awful pick. Huff was the #3 DE on the team, and beat out CLemons for snaps but not by a large margin. If you can't replace Huff's production with a 2nd year edge rusher from the top half of the first round that's quite an indictment on the player, the coaching staff, the front office decision-making-- or a healthy combination of those 3 things. While I acknowledge that Huff has been one of the Jets most productive pass rushers I think he will be over-valued becuase of his stats, I think he's still too much a liability against the run, and I don't think the Jets with the current roster construct can afford to keep a 2nd contract edge rusher who plays less than half of the defensive snaps on the roster.
I was just thinking about Will McDonald today. The 15th overall pick. He needs to have a bigger role in 2024. Obviously Jermaine Johnson and Hassan Reddick will be starters, but with the rotation Saleh does, McDonald needs to step up. You don’t take a player that high to be a bench player. I’m hoping he takes the next step this season.
