Reese was director of pro personnel under Accorsi.

This according to the Newark Star-Ledger earlier today.

Maybe not. Coughlin got another year's extension as well.

If Coughlin doesn't win atleast one playoff game next year, he's as good as gone. And, IIRC, it's almost a policy of the Giants to not allow their coach to enter the final year of his contract.

That's it exactly - the Giants don't allow their coach to be in the last year of his contract. I think winning a playoff game is actually probably too low of a bar for Coughlin to stay - barring catastrophic injury (and maybe even with it) I think he has to get to the NFC championship game to come back.

almost no team allows a coach to coach the final year of the contract. It's like lame duck status. So when it comes to before the final year, most teams will either give the coach an extension or fire him.

There's the possibility of lame duck status, but there's another factor too - if by some chance the team has a great season, the coach is then a free agent, and can leave if he wants to, putting the team in a very bad position.

The team had an option on his contract. Fisher's situation was different than say, Coughlin's.

I dunno... If I was this guy taking the job I'd be a little annoyed... I mean you work for the organization, the postition is open, the team goes outside the organization to fill the postition, which is a good move, I'd want Pioli too, Pioli tells them to pound salt now they turn around and hire someone who they passed on originally from the inside... To me once you go outside the organization I think you should stay outside... but thats me

Am I the only person who thinks that Ernie Accorsi was one helluva overrated GM. This team has lacked any fuctionality for what's going on 5 years now. Their parts don't mesh at all, and I think that is a product of the type of players that he has brought in.

They were never great w/ him so i am sure they can win w/o him.

Doesn't the new Giants GM look like Willis from Different Strokes?

I like the guy already. I read about his ideas in the paper. I like that attitude of his. He has that 'Go Getta' attitude I was looking for in a GM.
