I’ll say that I am surprised a little, only because I expected “professionals”,that if they saw something in this offense that was going to turn around, I trusted them. Because there is no way they would waste a defeat like this right?
Yeah and obviously the defense is going to start to get worse as the effort decreases. I’m having a hard time finding wins on this remaining schedule.
No way that JD survives the next "purge". If Saleh goes, so should Douglas. They are equally accountable for this mess.
I think the only thing that will save Douglas, is if he fires Saleh at the end of the season, but if not, and it's the same shit show, they'll both be leaving together
The thing about JD is he actually has done some very good things with the Jets. The defense, G. Wilson and Hall were great picks. But the OL is still a problem and striking out on Wilson with the #2 pick is bad. No other way to say it. As far as bringing Rodgers here I thought that was Woody Johnson who was behind it. Both JD and Saleh wanted Carr if I remember correctly. This is a winning business and JD's record as GM is a poor one so I wouldn't be shocked if the Jets clean house at the end of the year. Or the Rodgers injury is the built in excuse for both he and Saleh to return. Neither scenario would surprise me.
He had a 68 passer rating 0 TD 1 INT. That puts him as one of the worst performers in the entire league this week. Yes, it is almost entire on him.
The kid is what he is. At this point, blame the coaches and GM for playing him. Shouldn't be a surprise that he plays poorly.
They can't say Wilson didn't have an opportunity either. They dropped him back to pass over 40 times again and gave him the ball with a chance to win the game. There are even so-so QBs that thrive with those chances.
I’m not saying he’s good, and I’m not a fanboy, but he’s not getting any help either with drops, penalties, etc. if everyone else didn’t fuck over that td last night, that’s a different game
That was 1) atrocious and 2) inexcusable. It is screamingly obvious to every team in the league that at this point in the season if the Jets don't get a TD and you do, you're winning and they aren't, unless of course the TD is off the D.
I’d imagine they’ll become vocal but the guys who haven’t gotten paid yet will still go hard. As long as Quinnen’s motor keeps running they’ll be formidable. It’s coming up more and more and it’s the truth: these guys have money at stake and money is one hell of a motivator. They may also play with a chip on their shoulder. It’s a damn shame though. The more I watch them the more I feel like it’s one of the best defenses I’ve ever seen, at least it would be if they got to rest a bit more often. And we haven’t even really seen them play with a lead for a good portion of a game yet. Who knows what that would look like.
I’m gonna say it straight up- the answer is to cut Zach right now. It needs to be done for this team and for Zach. The FO was right last year, Zach needs a reset. Zach’s ceiling is a mediocre backup at this point. He needs to sit on a bench in some obscure quiet market for about 4-5 years as a backup and spend that time learning about football. Like coach says, read a book. His presence on this team is like cancer at this point. You have a FO desperate to hang on to him for fear of admitting the awfulness of the pick, and you have a football team of players that have to look this terrified kid in the eyes on the field knowing he’s leading them right into disaster yet they can’t say or do anything about it. It’s completely toxic, and he needs to be removed from the equation so everyone in the building can reset and move on.
Sam Darnold told him at the time he was making a mistake. He was right. I didn't like it at the time either, but with hindsight not keeping Sam and cashing in that #2 pick to the 49ers was the single biggest catastrophe decision in years. It was the personnel decision equivalent of a person just stepping on a land mine out in a field.
Its kind of sad when a 4th round rookie looked like he had better control of his offense than Zach has after 30 starts. Maybe sadder is facing a backup rookie QB, missing their top O-lineman - last year we win this game. Other than Rodgers, we got worse this offseason.
Sure, Zach only made one crippling mistake (the interception). But aside from a couple flashy sidearm throws that didn't accomplish much and an impressive though futile Hail Mary attempt, he didn't do anything good either. Like if we had a QB who could make some plays, then we would have won this game.
As I posted a year or better ago I think actually the best thing for Wilson (which is impossible) would be to play as many games as possible at a lower level. I think he would benefit from live fire in a low pressure environment. Which I guess is what most of these guys do with the benefit of a full college run. Its been pretty obvious to me for a long long time now that he just doesn't "see it" or "feel it" and while I suspect he'll never be Joe Burrow or Bernie Kosar in that sense there is no way that more repetitions and experience wouldn't at least help.
