No in a 3-4 you need bigger d-linemen and OLBs that can rush the passer (i.e. Ware in Dallas or Merriman in SD). Both those guys arent that big and play the OLB in the 3-4.
Nate Clements OR Asante Samuel Terdell Sands (6'7, 340lb) NT / DT from Oakland is worth a look at Shaun McDonald, Mike Furrey & Travis Taylor as #3 slot options Tully Banta-Cain (OLB from New England) And Leonard Davis who we could switch from LT to RT and have Clement serve as the back-up if we choose to re-sign him which I think we should.. as a back-up.
? December 27, 2001: The Mets obtain slugging 1B Mo Vaughn from the Angels in exchange for their #2 starter Kevin Appier. Vaughn did not play a game in 2001 due to injuries. -X-
"A" list of free agents for Jets needs: 1. Asante Samuel, CB (strengthens Jets, weakens Pats) 2. Nate Clements, CB (strengthens Jets, weakens Bills) 3. Cory Redding, DT (move this man to RE and watch special things happen) 4. Lance Briggs, OLB (high impact player, needs some size in front of him at DE) 5. Najeh Davenport, RB (a nice piece for the RBBC - 6'1" 247 lbs and fast) 6. Daniel Graham, TE (good 2nd TE and has a lot of clutch time experience) 7. Eric Steinbach, LG (this is a replacement for Pete Kendall not Brandon Moore, so choose your poison here. He's not built for RG, being tall and lanky not squat and powerful) That's about as far as you get in terms of real free agent impact for the Jets in my opinion. The top 4 are the people I think could have a huge impact for the Jets next season. Davenport and Graham would be nice additions but those roles can be filled in other ways too. Steinbach would replace Kendall not Moore, and there are no roadgrading guards in free agency this year to go to the right side for the Jets.
Can we get Josh Brown for kickoffs as well? 1st off I would like to see Anthony Clement back with a rookie being drafted to groom as his replacement. Eric Steinbach is pretty intriguing, he's young and the Jets definately need an upgrade at guard, I can deal with another season of Pete Kendall while bumping Moore to a backup role.
First and foremost, Boss bailey is NO WAY. The guy constantly is injured and really isnt a good fit for the 3/4. We were great this year because we stayed healthy, bailey would not help that. Alot of the guys will be resigned but here are some guys i like that will liekyl hit the open market: Corell buckhalter - another injury concern but is a good runner inside, would work well with leon Musa smith -- powerful runner, not a lot of risk, possible high reward Chris Perry -- if he does not get a 1st round tender then we should go after this guy Furrey and Bobby wade would be nice # 3's but i doubt furrey will hit open market had a monster season. Shiancoe is a terrific blocker hed be solid leonard davis would be nice at right tackle Steinbach or dockery at guard would be good, dockery is a real road grader at RG. Chris kelsay or KGB intrigue me as possible outside linebackers with good pass rush ability Redding at 3/4 d-end would be a good addition. Enough has been said aobut terrell sands but he would be great at NT, so would randy starks Tully banta cain is a good blue collar guy at old, familiar with mangini, solid pass rush skills Outside of samuel and clements no one interests me at CB Hamlin is terrific when hes healthy, definete upgrade over coleman Gibril wilson and babineaux also interest me somewhat but i doubt theyd come if they werent garunteed a starting spot
Why does everyone think we need linebackers. The Jets have one of the most solid Linebacking cores in the nfl. Someone please explain to me why we need a lb. Hobson Vilma Barton Thomas.
why is everyone ready to realease 2 OL when thats a spot we need depth at? moore is the only one we could release since clement is a FA....and i would keep moore, and mangini is going to keep moore. he loves the guy. clement is a good tackle, but i would like to replace him with that chud baby whos a FA out of oak langston walker. 6'8" 345 lbs of monster would be great to see at RT... terdell sands is another chud baby....hes a monster (size wise) and would def command the gaps. i would like to see him in a jets uni as well. if i have to choose btwn samuel and clements....id rather have samuel...but it depends on what his demands are. MAYBE, juuuuusssst maybe....he wants to play for mangini here....and since we all know the pats wont pony up any dough to keep a player, we may be able to sign him for a reasonable contract for both sides. as far as a RB goes....thats gonna have to be through the draft. that is, unless, there can be some kind of an agreement (not ransom) for turner. a 1st rounder is something most teams will be hard pressed to part with. and given the fact that after this season he will be an UFA (wont he?) SD needs to get what they can for him now, because they wont franchise him with LT there, and he wont make big money there as a backup to the best in the league. i think there could be some finagling and he may be gotten for less than a 2nd rounder....theyd have to get creative...but i wouldnt be shocked by the FO at this point...(for making good choices)
tangini inherited these guys they will likely make changes to better fit the 3-4 we had a a lot of problems against the run, not surprising in the first year, but they will address the defensive personel
No need to release Moore or Clement. Moore needs to be upgraded, but he would be a great backup. Clement was solid, and it would not be the end of the world if he was a starter again in '07. Although the position could stand to be upgraded as well.
Dielman would be good money. I wouldnt cry if we got samuel, but I have to think if our front 7 had some push then we wouldnt be so bad.
