If Rodgers retires after this year, does that mean he wouldn't still get paid next year? Because I don't see anything here that indicates he's promising the Jets anything, only that this is how the Jets are currently handling the cap hit/timing of how the money is paid out.
It's always interesting how they manipulate the money "hits". What does this mean to you guys? Q Williams signing? Run at DeAndre Hopkins? Nothing?
If he plays in 2024, he has a $100mm salary. If he doesn’t play, he doesn’t. It’s not complicated. It’s not a bonus, it’s a salary.
We still don’t have a ton of space this year so idt a run at Hopkins with our WR core is realistic. The Q signing probably won’t affect the cap this year or next… I think it means flexibility. If we draft JSN, we can clear $10mm cap space from CD, if we don’t get JSN, we’re still good cap wise with CD.
Gee.....Rodgers really is human. What struck me the most was how happy he looked during the whole Interview . There were no signs Remorse for being Here with the jets. He sounds like hes all in and very happy about it ........Period.! Now that it's all over I can say that it was worth every minute of waiting for the moment That he became a New York jet...... Easy to say lol.
so much conflicting info on this. i assume everything will be clarified shortly. anyway he will play longer than people think
The jets will probably restructure his contract whether he plays or not next year and add a few voidable years and spread out the reminder of the contract Whether he plays next year or not. With the smile Rogers had on his face yesterday it looks like hes going to play More than one year like he said as long as hes having fun he'll be playing . I'm very optimistic about him playing at least 2 years . Go Jets!
This has really been a magical week for Jets fans. Hopefully this draft weekend is the cherry on top.
They will have to restructure this probably this year. This was only made so that he fits under current salary CAP and does not lose any guarantees. Still, this is a huge sacrifice by Arod to defer the money. However it does not mean he guarantees two years. He will have to restructure again, there is no way the Jets can get under the CAP next year with 108 as a base. Say he keeps this contract and he wants to retire after a year. He will restructure to get the bonus paid right away by March 2024. The Jets will have to choice - 108 mil base simply won't fit under the CAP, and they have to get under the CAP by next March.
If he retires next year, why would the Jets voluntarily convert his salary which he won’t make into a bonus? 0 logic, partner.
Because he won't retire by March. We need to get under salary CAP by March. We will have to work with him regardless by then and he will get paid, then retire. This money is not going anywhere, they are fully guaranteed. There is simply no way to get under the CAP with 107 mil tied to 1 player. With that said, I don't think he intends to retire if he feels he can still play at high level.
Interesting… so you think the FO would sign a contract with a player and not have any assurences he doesn’t immediately retire and take a full salary?
They will have no choice, because the base it too high. You are not following what took place with the contract. Rodgers is doing them a favor by pushing the money temporarily, but he will get his even if he retires. What that means is that more than likely they will renegotiate this deal later on this year. This deal was just to fit him under the CAP right away. Here: https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/sourc...-restructure-helps-jets-cap/story?id=98903804 "For now, though, the placeholder contract allows the Jets cap room to sign draft picks and pursue free agents. They are $7.4 million under the cap, according to NFLPA data." "The Jets and Rodgers' agent, David Dunn, already are having discussions about restructuring the deal again, Rodgers confirmed after Wednesday's news conference. Chances are he will have a new deal in place by training camp."
Yeah he’s only worth $200 million with a lifestyle where he probably burns $250K a year. No way he’d walk away from money.
one has to wonder after favre and rodgers is maybe the packers org causes these issues and not the players themselves. Rodgers is just honest and outspoken and wanted to win and instead of the packers doing the same they decided to start a rebuild and cost rodgers a shot at a ring
