Gives them some flexibility - I'm good with it. I still hope they can get their Center of the future though
Don’t get me wrong, I would like to see him brought back but only if he comes back around the same price. No sense throwing money at a backup linebacker
Like most was hoping for Jones. McGovern is average at best and have allowed the most sacks of any center over the last three years (15). Some of that could be we have had bad QB play over that time by either holding onto the ball too long or being a statue in the pocket. Our best offensive lines from the beginning have always included a good/great center, Schmidt, Fields, Mawae and Mangold. I'm hoping we get one with our second pick.
Think he is fine. Perhaps Jones indicated he was leaning retirement or wanted to much. McGovern should also benefit from having AVT back next to him.
The OL was not at all together. Everyone but McGovern was injured at some point with 3 of the 5 in injury reserve most of the season.
I was alright with the idea of this before and I'm ok with it now. But they do need to draft a C because if they follow Rodgers with a rookie, they are going to need someone already established at C when it happens.
I like the resigning of Connor because it doesn't lock us into needing to draft a Center. We now have our starting & backup center signed. This changes our draft strategy.. maybe WR at 13, & OT at 43. Maybe OT at 13 & safety at 43....then cut whitehead.
Rodgers wants WR at 13. I think we go that route. Jaxon should be there and it makes all the sense paired with Wilson. We can find OL at 42/43.
Not terrible because the Jets can draft for value over needs. That said, they still need to upgrade the position. Would be gambling if there were injuries on the line. But there is huge upside if Becton and AVT come back at full strength, old man Brown plays at a high level again, and they all stay healthy.
Finally, a signing of starting caliber player. It's been a while! This is a very important one, even if it is the guy we already had last year. I would have been OK with Ben Jones too, who is a little better, but Ben is turning 34, and struggled with multiple concussions last year. CMG is durable (missed 3 games in 6 years) and 4 years younger. And to be fair, he was the best lineman we had last year. AVT of course is a better player, but only played 7 games. CMG played 17. Slightly above average (which is significantly better than overall OLine performance last year) and durable starter. At this point of free agency, this is just about the best you can get. I am almost positive this is a short deal without breaking the bank. Solid move, and now we can take BPA in the draft and not focus necessarily on Center.
JD will not set the market. He waits until the last minute to make a deal. While people here and the media are panicking he takes a last look and pounces. It will be the same for Q. Williams although at a much higher price.
I'm guessing a one year bridge deal here, while looking to add a C in the draft for the future. Makes sense and adds a little continuity in the meantime. He's pretty poor at pass pro, but all things considered it makes sense.
eh doubt it. we have wilson, lazard, davis, and hardman. I coud see a later round WR though. may still get cobb on a vet min
If we want to keep Rodgers for next 2-3 years. We need to get him young WR talent. He wants input in the personnel management.
