I realize this might seem like an absurd thought on the surface, but I'm starting to wonder if the Jets should draft a WR early in the draft. Here are some reasons:

    1. Coles is 29 and based on the hits he took and comments at the end of the season, you have to wonder how many more years he will be around.

    2. McCareins due to salary and his desire to start elsewhere is likely to be gone.

    3. This is one of the strongest WR classes I can ever remember. In most years I wouldn't think there's any way a guy like Jarrett, Ginn or Sydney Rice could be there at #25. This year, there is so much talent at the position that it might be a rare opportunity to acquire an elite WR prospect without having to move into the top 15. Even if you didn't want to take one in round 1, players such as Steve Smith, Smardjzia or Anthony Gonzalez could be nice additions in Round 2.

    4. Some of it might have been because they used the RB and TE more to block, but they never had a consistent third option behind Coles/Cotchery. Is it really realistic to expect them to be responsible for 61 percent of the team's passing yards again? They are a very good tandem, but this isn't Chris Carter/Randy Moss.

I'd be extremely disappointed if we picked a WR on Day One.

I'm not saying the Jets NEED a wide out, but for the reasons I stated above, I don't think its completely absurd to think that they could use help at WR. The other reasons I bring it up is because the odds that the BPA at #25 will be a WR. In most years there wouldn't be a chance in hell of Jarrett or Ginn being there at #25, but there might this year. If either of them are available at that point I think it would be very difficult to pass up on either of them.

Unless Calvin Johnson  is there at 25 for us I say pass on this draft for a W/R. Jets have bigger needs then a W/R.

Im telling you now, if we pass on sidney rice Ill be extremely dissapointed this kid might actually fall to the second round, and hes actually good, very good. Coles is getting older we need a big play guy now. Seriously

I'd put a hole in the Tv if Jarrett is sitting there @ 26, we take him and don't look back. I don't remember this kid being injury prone so you get yourself a top wideout for 10 + years for cheap.

The only way we pass on jarrett is if okoye is there, other then that we take jarrett and watch him absoloutley beast on the smaller cb's in the league.

yes, WR is actually a strength now. We should draft BAP. If that means WR, then fine, but I wouldn't be thrilled.

Can you imagine if we had 4 spread with Coles--Cotchery--Smith--Rice? that would be hell for opposing Defenses. wanna talk about helping the running game. that WR corps and one more stud along the OL would make this Offense extremely difficult to stop.

still, if guys like Lamarr Woodley and Okoye (among others) are there at #25, you'd be hard-pressed to justify selecting a WR. i think the only way you do it, is if Jarrett somehow drops (but if anyone has watched him play, his onfield attitude doesn't seem Mangini-like as he showboats and talks a lot of smack).

    cheers

i think i agree with this.

but that BAP at WR has to be top 15 talent, making it a steal.

    cheers

this draft is stacked at WR, so you can get one with a 1st/2nd rd grade in the 3rd rd. Personally, I like Anthony Gonzalez because hes like a Hines Ward, good at everything.

I would seriously doubt that Woodley and Okoye were there at #25 if a Rice, Jarrett or Ginn was there.

youre right the WR class is deep, so deep actually, there is talent well into the 3rd & 4th rounds maybe later, one guy to look for is Dwayne Bowe, a really good WR who was very prominent playing with J-Russ, in LSU, or CHansi STuckey out of Clemson can be a good edition...

You want to rely on Brad Smith? I know the kid has talent but he's too raw.....

I say we sign a decent 3rd WR in free agency..........
