LE - shaun ellis NT - amobi okoye RE - dewayne robertson OLB - bryan thomas ILB - jonathan vilma ILB - eric barton OLB - victor hobson CB - asante samuel FS - kerry rhodes SS - erik coleman CB - andre dyson not too many changes ... but it should be good enough if okoye falls into the jets laps at 26 and some of the 28 mil gets thrown at samuel
Permitting we add better depth behind the starters in the front 7, I could def. live w/ that starting line-up. W/ that said , I doubt Okoye will drop to us at #26 and I dont think he'd be ready to be a starter by week 1, as he still needs some more work w/ his technique.
No way Barton is back next year, we need a big ILB and Barton is not the guy. But I love the idea of moving DRob to the end, it has to be done. We need a big NT that can eat up blocks. Im not even sure about Erik Coleman, he is not the same player he was his rookie season, he gives up too may big plays.
Barton is a BIG ILB? 6-3 248 lbs. He has a good frame for his postion, and does a good job for this team. Why would he not be back next year? He produces just as much as the next guy. Unless we manage to upgrade this spot with a R. Lewis type player, I dont know how you could let him go. He is bigger than Vilma as well, and about the same frame for a MLB. :/
yeah coleman did have an off year this year...but i'd keep him...not many options on the market... unless eric weddle falls to the 2nd or 3rd round which i doubt.
Barton got beat up all season, he was man handled against good offensive lines. I liked him in 04, I dont like him anymore.
Barton played well particularly during the second half of the season, but I dont think he is coming back. 2 reasons: 1. He'll be a free agent after next season, getting rid of him could save some cap room, and he's not young. 2. He's not a Mangini guy. If he was he wouldnt have been swapped in and out with Kassell (who is a Mangini guy) who didnt play as well.
Barton is not young? Since when is 29 old? It's not like he got a Mo Lewis type contract late in his career. Barton played well this year to me, his blitzing could use some work, but for the 1st time he played inside in a defense since he'd played on the outside all of his career. If he's cut due to cap reasons, then I'd be OK with it. But I'd definately want to keep him as depth, because the depth is very poor at LB, and even still that'd be the same LB corps and we can agree that the Jets need a pass-rushing OLB, to me Hobson might be better inside.
I don't think Dyson will be here next year. He was hurt often, and didn't seem to fit in well with the scheme.
Right now he IS the only consistent cover guy we have. He has played above and beyond what I thought he would, and I cant say for sure, but I am assuming he will have that knee back to health once TC comes around. I never read anything on the extent of the injury though. So I am just assuming for the best. He was solid none the less.
Hurt often?! Where do you get these opinions from?, cause that's what they are opinions not facts. He missed one game this year and got hurt at the end. Before he was injured in Seattle, he played three full seasons as a starter. Its not that he's old, its just that he's not young. Next year will be his ninth as a pro and after next season he will be looking to negotiate his 3rd NFL contract. If the Jets keep him they probably wont want to resign him, because of a combination of his age, the expense involved, and his level as a player. In other words, I think the Jets will look to move him this off season because it will provide them a little salary cap savings, if they move him this off season they can get something for him and his value is a little higher because he is one season younger, and if they wait till next year they will probably have to let him walk and get nothing for him.
Dyson was leader in the secondary and was considered to be a shut down corner. Sorry he had an injury late in the season, he tried to play but it just didn't work.
We shouldnt take samuel. He had a good game against us. Not enough reason to throw money at him. It has to be about his entire career not one game.
