https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/4...comes-49ers-third-qb-option-one-year-contract Good for him.. Hopefully Mr. S can get the most out of him.
I think he'll fit well in SF. Purdy is out for well into their season... Sam may create a QB problem for them.
It didn't work out with us. However, I hope it works out for him there. Possibly the definition of optimism.
If Darning Darnold somehow starts and is successful there, that wouldn't be a good thing for Joe Douglas.
Yep. I think like most, it's a good opportunity in terms of system, the coaching he's going to get, and the team he's going to be playing on. I hope Sam makes the best of it.
Sam has never had a fair shot in the NFL. He went from Bowles/Bates to Gase/Loggains to Matt Rhule. I don't know to what if any extent he'll get to play in SF, but at least if he gets to take the field, he'll have a chance to show what he can do on a good team.
Sam went 8-9 with the Panthers. Those 2 years the panthers record was 14-20. Even Mayfield only managed 1-5 with them.
The fact that Darnold is miles better than Zach Wilson, plus all the extra first round picks we could've had by trading with SF, plus the additional picks Rodgers will cost, is already not good for JD. The 49ers have been the opposite of the Jets in terms of making good QB decisions. I like all 3 of their options rn, and they haven't overspent on any.
Its been 2 years and I still cant figure what the niners were doing. Spending 3 picks to not take Fields, and take a guy that would have easily been there at your original pick. Nobody was mocking Lance to go in the top 15. It just boggles the mind.
They have been great. But that move is still a mind boggling piece of stupidity. They were the only people in the league that thought he wouldn't make it to pick 12.
They traded up to get whatever QB they wanted (not named Wilson or Lawrence). After they did their evaluations, that person turned out to be Trey Lance. Don’t confuse the time frame or the motivation.
QBs bust all the time. Ozzie Newsome wasn't very good at finding them either. Look at that draft, none of those guys beside Lawrence really look like they are top level, and if any of them develop into one, it will probably be with their second or third team. This is why I gave up on draft QBs for the current build and I guess the Jets felt the same way. It's too much of a crapshoot. At least veterans are a known commodity.
