The reality is, for the first time in quite some time, the Jets are closer to being a good team than being an awful team. If the controllers can grow some balls and make some tough decisions about the QB position, the improvement should continue. The more they dick around by expecting Zach to transform into something he is not, the window will start to quickly close and the opportunity lost.
Oline was an achilles all season and unfortunately that and the injury to Breece Hall will give MLF a bye. O- coordinator (and recently, ST's) are big parts of this offense's problems and like Cman stated- without substantial offensive improvement this team won't improve. The D is solid, particulalry when you consider they're pretty much playing with backs to the wall every week knowing they must hold another team to 20 or less just to have a chance.
Again, that's the crux of my post. The FO/CS has to get the QB position figured out or this team will spin its wheels forever. Our D can only carry us so far but we still have to sustain drives and put points on the board. The OC also has to figure out what he wants to do about merging the ground game into Air LeFleur. What he's doing right now ain't working very well. I'm still not sure if the right QB is on the roster to execute LeFleur's system.
Yep... that's the problem in a nutshell. We were not blown out in too many games... but the offense looks like shit without run support. Jack up the O-line and get Breece back and we'll be more of a threat. We need to figure out the QB situation... get special teams back on track. Our successes were not enough to overcome our failures.
Remember when Joe Douglas promised Sam's parents that he would do everything in his power to protect their son? Three years and a dozen roster moves later and here we are. Still can't protect our QB, no matter who it is, and still can't open holes. Is that on JD or the coaching staff? Maybe it's time to examine the scheme.
Hey, lets give the fisheye to the OL coach too. Seems they were as big a liability as ZWilson. Injuries happen but it does seems they spent the season scrambling instead of contingency planning. JD hired some bums off the street and only Brown panned out even though he's the ancient on the unit.
You are what your record says you are. The Jets are a .500 football team. Not bad, not good. Injuries killed this team this year. Lost whatshisface at OT before the season started. AVT, Hall, Davis, White - it’s pretty bad. Maybe not the worst in the league and next man up blah blah blah. Well the next man up isn’t playing like Breece Hall. We don’t have a better QB that Mike White. AVT was the heart of the line. Imagine whatshisface road grating for Hall. Had we been playing those guys together and they avoided injury it’s not outrageous to think they might have competed for the Divison and a 1 seed. That’s how close they were in games this season anyway - a handful of plays that they failed to execute costing them numerous wins. And they’re still in the playoff hunt, slim as their chances may be. I’m not even pissed about this game. I expected the loss and I never expect the Jets to make the playoffs anymore, even if they have the talent to go toe to toe with almost any team in the league, injuries or not. JD won’t stand still this off-season and the team will get healthy. They can lose out this season and I’ll still expect them to be much improved and competing for the division next season.
We're 0-3 this month and still playing meaningful games. It sucks because we were 7-4 and in control of our destiny a few weeks ago, but coming into the season, this is what many wanted right? A team which isn't out of it before Halloween and not being obsessed with what to do with an incoming top 5 pick.
I enjoyed this season and they beat my win expectation. There's also a clear path forward to getting over the hump. O line, QB, definitely a punter and another linebacker. People complaining just like to complain or have agendas like not liking a coach or player Almost nobody expected a playoff race.
We also see what QW means to this DL… I’ve been saying we have a few solid pass rushers but not one great pass rusher…JFM, Lawson, they are complementary guys…without QW they couldn’t get home….we need him back in a big way This offseason we need to finally fix this OL and I also think we need a stud pass rusher for sure And of course QB…
“Ownership” is too busy obsessing over uniforms to know what’s truly going on within the team. But to be honest I like JD and I like Saleh. I think other than figuring out QB the Jets simply need more talent particularly OL and LB. Rome wasn’t built in a day …. But the Jets are on the upswing.
Seriously. If Woody stays out of the day to day and just gets to pick the uniforms each week, we're all better off.
I agree - its just a shame that fixing the OL, getting a stud pass rusher and a franchise QB are the 3 hardest things for any team to achieve - and at least 2 of the 3 the Jets haven't managed to sort in decades and so the chances of them managing to do all 3 at the same time are less than 0.0000001%
Remember that we hit the last draft out of the park and lost our two best offensive players two months ago.
