I don't mean to harp on things but what was he doing. I said all week if we were to win I expected he would make a big play and he had it right in front of him and whiffed. Just a dissapointing ending to a sub par season for him. I had visions of him coming around the end wrapping Brady up with his left arm while he tomawks the ball loose with his right and someone else picking it up and taking it to the house while Brady lies there on his back. I think if gets that opportunity 10 times he makes that play 9 of them.

That was a difficult one to take. You'd think a player of his calibur would make that play.

He's a human. Have you ever made a mistake at your job? He's been consistent throughout the past 3 years. The play at the goalline he made was insane but people just talk about what he didn't do.

You're right Vilmania, I'm glad he's on the team. If it was Chatham or Hobson or something no one may have even remembered. It's just that we've come to expect better from Vilma you know?

This isn't a shot at Vilma. I just expect a player of his calibur to make that play and it was such strange play I still can't believe he didn't make it.

Yeah I might've jumped the gun, but all the complaints on this and that in this forum were getting me mad.

I agree, I was so pissed at the wiffed sack. I was at the game so i never got to see the replay until i got home but when i saw it i assumed i missed something. Maybe Brady moved up in the pocket or something like that to make him miss, but that really didnt happen. Vilma went for the strip and wiffed completely. If he had just hit him and blindsided him, its likely he would have fumbled anyway. Just a mental lapse by Vilma

If that was Barton, they would still be scaping Brady off the turf.

No he's a head hunter. He'd go for the kill shot. Not the strip. Ask Brees.

I have to agree here...I really don't know why Vilma just didn't slam his ass. He had a clean shot at Brady.

Barton may have hit him so hard the refs may have thrown a flag.

    You can't make every play.

That was the only play (including the fumble pass) that had me sitting in my seat, stunned, shaking my head for a good 5 minutes. Vilma has been the biggest disappointment this season. Last season he was the only bright spot on a crappy team. But he is not living up to the hype anymore.

No one mentions that it was great fundamentals by Brady, with two hands on the damn ball, and great sence of where the rush was to step up... It was more a case of trying to make the big play in my eyes anyway, instead of going for the sack, he went for the ball... Thats the NFL.

Hmm, maybe he was going for the big play to put momentum in the Jets corner? It was a mistake, sure, but if the ball had been stripped, would ANY ONE OF YOU be sitting here today saying "Vilma took a big risk there, we're lucky it worked out."

NO. You'd be sitting here writing "Now THAT'S the Vilma we're used to!"

And he DID NOT have a bad year. He didn't have padded stats. He DID lead the defense, and Mangini even COMPLIMENTED his on-field playcalling and leadership in the 3-4.

Jeez. People jump all over Vilma, but Chad's year full of padded stats, thanks to excellent work by his receivers is god-like. Nuge with his 50 yard KOs gets over on his FGs. Houston and his gimp legs are treated like he's the RB of the future.

I seriously wonder sometimes if most people around here even understand the game of football.

I think if he has the opportunity to make that play once... on the big stage... in the playoffs he makes that play zero times.

Haha...I appreciate that bud. I tried to reclaim my position again, but I apparently cheated by asking people to vote for me and I was removed from the list of candidates lol. Its all good though as I am happy just to be able to post here.

And then we'd all be bitching how the league should put QBs in tutus out there, but we wouldn't be complaining about Barton. I don't mind when he gets those penalties if he gets a great lick on the QB. Last time I remember he got a call against Brady but knocked him loopy, and we wound up winning the game. They call almost everything, so might as well make the hit count right? Then next time the QB throws the ball away so fast you can't even get close to him, but it's not like he's completing the pass either.

The play there was to hit Brady as hard as you can and get the ball back, whether by punt or fumble.

Getting a chance to knock Brady out of the game or off his rhythm was more important than even the turnover would've been.

Got use the LT strip-sack-smash: One arm around the QB the other coming down like a tomahawk on the arm and across the body.
