Of course his numbers are down. He was a bigger factor with the Pats last season than he is with us. His injury didn't help him with us this season. That's his role. 3rd, and 4th down player. I'm just saying I'd like to keep the guy around.

I agree. He's still serviceable as a punt returner. I'd like to see Smith elevate to the #3 spot. McCareins can be put out to pasture. Dwight can battle with some new addition for the #4 spot.

    I don't want a Randy Moss.
Plus, I think a huge OG will help our running game and that means our passing game. Sean Ryan as a FB may help also.

It's funny. They actually sell Dwight jerseys on the Jets site. I mean I could think of some more deserving players....

*edit. Wow. I know for a fact I saw them on there for sale the other day. Sold out I guess?

I dont know about Samuel, I feel like every time I see him make a play its at the line of scrimmage or within ten yards of it, I dont feel like you ever see him downfield. But I guess Mangini knows his limitations better than anybody, so if he thinks its worth it, thats good enough for me. But you know hes going to want top dollar, and I dont know if hes really got that kind of ability.

Id like to see the Jets get Eric Steinbach, 5th year player out of Iowa, first round draft pick for the Bengals. I dont think theyve got the money to bring him back, goes around 6'6 300. Good player, and we need a guard.

That's okay. Right before Christmas I was in Sports Authority on Rte. 1 in Woodbridge. There must have been 30-40 (I'm not kidding) Ty Law and John Abraham jerseys on the sale rack. Of course, they were marked down to like, $34.99 or something like that, but still... who TF buys this stuff?

Imagine the new coach in Miami: half the team (literally) are free agents and the Dolphins don't have beaucoup cap space to keep them and sign other free agents.

Saban ran like a baby from the mess he made.

Darn it. The Ovie Mughelli price tag probably just went up a bit. He was named to the Associated Press All-Pro second team. Neal was named to the first team. Karney was also named to the second team.

    Isn't that $28 million deceiving?
It doesn't take into account Curtis Martin's contract coming off the books...we still owe years of deferred bonus cap hits on that.
Additionally, it wouldn't suprise me if the Jets cut Pennington.
Obviously they would re-sign him to cap friendly deal for both him and the team. However, if we have the space now, they could afford to wipe out the albatross of that $64 million contract. And yes I understand that the Jets re-did his contract, but that doesn't mean they don't have to account for the bonus money we paid him several years ago. In essence, the Jets could "wipe" the cap clean on that contract within one year if they had the room. That would make 2008's cap look pretty good with CM's hit coming off as well.

    Just a thought...

We need a big -- 6'5", 340 pound -- run stuffer on the DL. That guy taken in the 1st round by Baltimore (name ?) was someone I wanted but we took D'Brick higher and Mangold lower.

Haloti Ngata...He played pretty good for Baltimore from what I hear.

I didn't want him at 4 though. I think we can get a NT through Free agency.

I haven't read through the whole thread, but there are a lot of teams with cap room this summer. I would imagine that the Jets # is about about middle of the road.

hey guys.....remebbr mccareins is gone...id give a 3rd and mccareins to SD for Turner...he will be awesome..and like it was stated...Turner and Washington would be an awesome 1/2 punch

as far as samuel...i dont know...and what about Freeney, there were talks he could be moved, he might even be a FA i dont know, but it was on espn that TB was interested..replace Kimo with him.....as far as depth at LB, you have to think schlegel will contribute

but with mccareins gone...imagine Randy Moss, Cotchery and Coles, switchin all 3 around, it would be deadly...

Very, very hard to get a good NT through free agency.

Why? Because teams that have them won't let go of them and there are not many teams that run a 3-4 in the first place.

Signing a 4-3 DT and converting them to NT at 26 or 27, which is when most of them come free, is also a very risky proposition because they have 8 or 9 years experience (counting college ball) at DT and it's hard to learn new tricks at that point. At least enough new tricks to be a good NT. See D-Rob for an example of this in action. He might have been a very good NT if he'd been put there right out of Kentucky.

The best way by far to get a 3-4 NT is to go find a guy who played NT or NG in college ball and draft him. It's also possible to find a good sized 4-3 college DT who has the right attributes (heavy, muscular and squat) and move him to NT. It's a lot easier to make the switch from DT to NT when you're being spoonfed at the pro level for the first time, less resistance to new ideas.

I wouldn't say that Jets are top ten just yet. Have to wait and see what real numbers are. For example Raiders had 14 million to play with in Fa on that list. Really they have like 32 milliion becauseA Brooks is on the books for 15 million next season. (never going to see that) NOw Alot OF players that are due a big roster bonus 4.75 L Jordan, B sims 2million to 3 millon, R Curry 5 million(probably one that will back) They picking up more money. NOW Randy Moss is scheduled to make 10 plus million in salary. Viking already paid his signing bonus. That anothetr 10 million if he moved. Raiders could have 40 million plus to play with in FA. BIg deal alot of teams have money and its going to be great year to be a freeagent. watch how much teams overspend for average talent. SO your buck is not going to go as far as it normal would.

Raiders are not cutting randy Moss and not trading him to an AFC Team(if they do move him) Raiders even wioth R moss 10 plus million dollar salary, have something like 32 million to play with in FA. So they aren't desperate to lose his salary.
Last point Randy Moss is a player that E mangini would not want on his team.
