We found out yesterday just exactly why we need to give Jerricho Cotcherya contract extension. Yes, we saw it in regular season games. Yes, we saw him do it in tough competitions in practice. But yesterday, he showed he was a big game prime time go to receiver. 100 yards and 1 TD in a game that Chad really wasn't too on target. On the big 77 yard play he stepped it up a gear. He blew by defenders. He looked FAST. That was the fastest ive ever seen the guy run and it was in the biggest game of the year.

Second, not Coles, but Chris Baker the first down/touch down maker. All year long, every time we give him a chance to make a catch, he does. Every ball that was thrown his was yesterday was caught except for one when he was wide open for a big first down but Pennington was off target. On one play inside the 10 on a 3rd down Pennington's pass got tipped at the line, tipped off the CB, and the Baker still made the catch. He was a little short of the first down, but that was the best he could do. He had to stay in and block a lot this year with the young offensive line, but next year im looking for him to break out.

I was a little disapointed with Coles performance down the stretch, but he was tired and had really gotten beaten up the last few weeks.

    Thats just my take...

I agree with everything you said... especially about coles. He definately gets a pass... if all the reports of his injuries are accurate, that guy has taken a beating this season but still produced.

I like Chris Baker. I just think that the TE is not a big part of this offense, which is why he didn't get too many passes thrown his way this season. He's a good reciever when given the chance and a pretty good blocker. I see no reason to get an upgrade over him.

i agree i really think that our recieving core is solid.

Coles: no comment needed. we all know he's a warrior and a great player.
Cotchery: this kid stepped it up big time this year and i'm very impressed with him. I hope to see more of the same for the coming years. (Please re-sign this kid immediately)
Baker: when given the opportunity i thought he really came through. Hope to see him get more involved next season after the O-line is more developed.

I think we could use a #3 WR unless Brad Smith steps up big time this off-season but i dont know if he's ready for it yet...

All three of these recievers (and tight end) attack the ball, and try to make plays happen. I think Baker is a good fit at TE. He is big, and yesterday, he was taking the ball out of the air between 3 defenders.

I don't think Baker needs to be replaced at all. But given Mangini's pedigree, it seems like he would want more 2 tight end sets and, after Baker, there's no one with any value.

I think that is a good point and it is amazing that Schottenheimer doesn't use the TE more seeing as all he could use in SD was Gates.

    I'll tell you this...

Cotchery impressed me yesterday with his SPEED.... I thought he was a 4.5 type guy, but man did he look faster than that scoring that long TD.

Before this team signs any free agents, they MUST sign this guy to a long term extension.

i dont think we should touch the wr's at all. Pay cotch the money.. That includes keeping J-mac. J mac has done good in the 3 wr rotation and as far as tightends Baker is just fine..
