That's ominous. Have to wonder if his benching is somehow connected. I hope he's okay. WTF is happening at OT this year!? One step at a time, but this could be a mess to sort out in the offseason. Seems possible there are zero 2023 starters at OT on the roster now. Might have to look that way in the 1st round next year. Only "positive" is it does make clear who the starters are at LT and RT are going forward, barring injuries, rather than potentially bouncing between Fant and Mitchell at RT. Hopefully allows for some more gelling
For once we hit on a guy with a low pick and he shows he can do something positive then an injury, comes back form injury and plays well and is now out for non football related matters. Is this coach speak for Ped use?
He was getting worked on Sunday and got pulled from the game. Maybe he got to mouthy about being replaced? As much as I hate losing another tackle, and want Mitchell to succeed, he wasn't nearly as good as this site was claiming.
He exceeded all expectations. He did very well IMO. Its disturbing to note we cant enjoy OL depth without a bunch of unexpected injuries and drama to boot.
That doesn't sound bad. So maybe they can get a 2nd round O-lineman that's good. They don't need the absolute best.
All speculation aside, I hope Mitchell gets his issue, whatever it is, sorted out and he gets right. And this is fricken' nuts. How many OL have we lost, but somehow, we're 7-5? That's some masterful FO and CS work!
Becton, Fant, Brown, AVT, Mitchell, McDermott, Ogbuehi … it’s a fucking RIDICULOUS carousel of tackles. I doubt there’s been another position group anywhere in the league that’s been more decimated than our OL. Hopefully Dr. LDT steps in now and provides some solid depth.
The way we go through linemen, big yup!#@ Actually, is it just me or are linemen on every NFL team dropping like flies this year? Anyway, Brown is signed through next year and clearly still has a passion for the game at this point, and Becton hopefully comes back healthy. The OT's next year can be: LT Brown + Round 1 draft pick RT Becton + Mitchell Ogbuehi can be re-signed as our 5th OT, and I think the Jets could do a lot worse than Ogbuehi at 5th OT (e.g., McDermott). In the middle, I'd be okay with re-signing McGovern at center or with just going ahead and biting the bullet and taking a top-rated center in rounds 2 or 3 of the draft. Obviously, AVT will be one guard and Tomlinson's contract almost guarantees that he'll be on the team if the Jets can't trade him. I think I would prefer moving AVT back to LG, though, and keeping Herbig as our RG. If we can't dump his salary, Tomlinson would be our backup OG if he can't beat out Herbig. As you can see, I'm in favor of making OL our #1 priority in the 2023 draft, even if we have to use our top two picks to fortify the line.
Tomlinson is either going to be cut or extended to bring down his cap hit. Under the current contract he would be the 3rd highest paid guard in the league next year. He is not worth over $17m on the cap. He he gets cut with a post June 1st designation it would be a $4m dead cap hit but a $13m cap savings.
