The 2006 New York Jets were built on hard work, guts and heart. After one of the all-time worst season's in NY Jets history, the team turned to an accounting wizard and a young assistant coach from behind enemy lines to rebuild the team. Few among the faithful believed this team would find much immediate success. After jettisoning vocal veterans and establishing an open competition at every position, people started to realize that this was not Herman Edwards' NY Jets. Early in the season, coach Eric Mangini and his staff showed innovation and daring not seen in these parts for a long time. As the season wore on, the Jets became a difficult team to play week in and week out. Ask the Colts. Ask the Bears. Rookies became significant contributors. Expectations rose as the blitzing and creative play calling increased. Did the fans dare to dream of the playoffs? In a late season home game against the Bills those dreams seemed to shatter faster than you can say "Same Old Jets". However, this Jets team would not give up. The Jets closed the regular season with 3 consecutive wins (including 2 road games), to walk head-held-high into the post season. Unfortunately, the dream ended there. Facing a more talented Patriots team, the scrappy Jets could not advance further in the tournament. Take heart Jet fans. This is not the end, but only the beginning. The system is now in place. Existing players will get better with another offseason under this coaching staff. Mike Tannanbaum has tons of cap space and an extra 2nd round draft pick to increase the talent level on this team. The future looks bright. Raise a glass to Eric Mangini. Raise a glass to Mike Tannanbaum. Raise a glass to Chad Pennington. Raise a glass to the 2006 New York Jets!!!
I'll be in a better mood in a few days, I'm just so pissed right now. Good season yes, but it could've been so much more. 2007 will be awesome, the jets are 28 mil under the cap and only 1 FA leaving. The future is very bright.
Thanks for the great thread mate. This Jets team has done way more than expected this year. Some could say it was unreasonable to expect anything more than what we got from them. Im still proud
I'm pissed about it being the pats and all, and we had a great shot at taking this game from them. It stings alot. But inside, i think everyone who frequents this forum knows that this team had the hard work ethic, discipline, and maturity of a championship team. And they are YOUNG. The future is bright, the foundation is in place, pieces will be added. This team is going in the right direction, and they are stepping on the pedal and are not looking back.
We had a great 2006 season. They exceeded most of our expectations by going 10 - 6 and into the playoffs. It's very disappointing that we lost, we had many chances. That backward fumble really killed us. I think we have a lot of thing to improve on this year for the 2007 season. We need a effective RB and more playmakers on Defense. This lost was much more easier to take then the playoff game against the Steelers. We have a lot to look forward to next year.
we were very lucky to have no major injuries, and it is a rarity for that to happen two straight years. we have a very tough schedule next year and i don't think we will be in the playoffs. we had our shot and we didn't take advantage. same old jets
We have a very tough schedule next season... Home Games: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Washington Away Games: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Tennessee, Dallas, N.Y. Giants I don't think there will be one easy game next year. This year we had the Raiders, Lions, Texans, etc. We really have to improve a lot the team for next year especially in D.
Great job. I was going to do something similar to this but I saw this and you hit the nail. It's funny that not that many people has responded to this thread but the other threads pointing fingers at who is to blame is already at their 3rd page. Thank you for doing this and CHEERS:beer:   I am proud to be a Jets fan and I am proud to how tough they played today. (5 start thread)
I guess some people move through the 5 Stages of Grief faster than others. Plenty of people will be stuck in Denial, Anger, Bargaining, or Depression for the next few days. Eventually they will come the realization that Acceptance is the only place to be. Glad you liked the post. DbJ
Lot's of negativity and crazy talk on the front page. I'll bump this one last time. Guys, remember this was a very good season and things will only get better.
As far as the last sentence, you are correct. The Jets have to improve in many areas. As far as the 2007 schedule is concerned, nobody really knows yet. I doubt all four of the NFC East teams will be good. I betcha Washington is going to be good. New York will probably take a step back. Dallas could go either way. Is Cleveland going to be good? Whether they are or not, I'm sure the Jets will take care of business against them in 2007. Is Pittsburgh going to be the same with a new coach? I suppose Russ Grimm will get the job. Can we expect him to be good? I don't know. Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Tennessee should be tough. Who knows about the other AFC East teams. I'm sure fans of the Jets 2007 opponents may be saying, "We have to play the Jets next year. That's going to be a tough game(s)."
Way to stay positive brother, must rain an awful lot in your world. Nice post DBjets, I was going to mention somethings about next years schedule but Cakes has done a nice job. Each year is different, so I too am not thrilled that we didn't get out of yesterdays game with a win. No way to tell what will happen next year, but I feel a lot better about our future than I did this time last year.....
There's no reason to be worried or afraid about next year's schedule. I have faith that Mangini and Tannenbaum will make this team better. With four 1st day picks and a buttload of cap space, the Jets will be legit players in the offseason. Honestly, this team can only get better talent-wise. We're not losing any studs in the offseason.
I couldn't be happier with this season. It was great. The loss yesterday really hurt-- I thought we might beat the Pats again. I watched the game with my father-in-law, a long time Pats fan. He said to me after the game, "The Jets are coming-- They're going to be a tough team and the Pats know it too." And so do I. Looking forward to next season.
