realistic targets would include: - Derekk Carr - Gardner Minshew Other people that I wouldn't want to trade for/bring in but who are likely to be around: - Jimmy G (he is always highly ranked even though I don't think he plays anywhere near that level) - Carson Wentz - Aaron Rodgers have to hope that some team has a major fallout with their QB and someone unexpected becomes a potential trade target - I don't think I can face another first round "saviour" being drafted by the Jets
At this point, everyone is on the table as far as QBs go, Wilson is by far the worst QB in the league, he makes Sanchez and Darnold look like Hof'ers The only thing the Jets have luck in that department is journeyman, let's hope Douglas can pull something big off in the off-season, I can't stomach wasting another pick on a QB
The problem in Vegas isn’t and hasn’t been Carr for a number of years. He is definitely responsible for winning games, but he also does his part. They’ve blown three 17 point leads this year. He’s pretty much a career losing QB, but he’s still a fully operational NFL QB.
just the Jet's luck that the QB free agents next year are about as bad as they come - two of the biggest names are Mayfield and Darnold!
Not if they’re winning with this franchise they don’t. Anyone with eyes can see this defense is lights out and it’s still a young group. The skill position players on offense are greatly improved. Hell, we’d probably be 8-2 if we still had Breece. Douglas gets a mulligan on Wilson if this season ends with a winning record and a top ranked defense.
I would be willing to let Douglas bring in another QB if he decides Zach isn’t the answer. Sometimes the hallmark of a good GM is recognizing your mistake early and making a move to correct the problem. He has proven he can identify talent. QB is the hardest position to identify.
Jimmy G looked awfully sharp last night. I know he played above himself but still. The way this Jets team is constructed he would fit like a glove. Keep an eye on him for next year. He’s a FA and there are a lot of SF connections here….
That would never work here. I liked the kid personally but his time in NY came and went. I say they go out and sign Jimmy G, keep Zach …. sure put them through a TC competition but Jimmy gets the job. Zach sits and resets himself - may make him a better QB going forward. If not draft another QB in 2024/25. In the meantime with the 2023 draft shore up OL and draft another couple of defenders make this defense even more scary.
This would be my "best case scenario". To sign Jimmy G this off season to a 2 year deal, and let Zack just sit and learn and correct all his mechanical issues and LEARN the offense next year. Then he gets to compete for the job the following year. If he doesn't win it, you know you need to draft one the following draft. Its not ideal, but buys them time to fix him if they believe they can, while being able to actually compete and win games.
Jimmy G is the bookies favourite to be the Jets starting QB next year - plus he is super handsome so you know the FO will love him (and he knows Saleh)
Jimmy G is an UFA at end of year and is playing himself into a big contract. Do we really want to be the team that pays Jimmy G?
Yes simply because the Jets can win now and with a good draft in 2023 can be even better. Jimmy G would not be the answer for some teams but for the Jets yes. And I’m not sure how big the contract would be. I don’t see JD going past 3-4 years and he is about 30 I think. He’s going to have to restructure Moseley among others so I think it can be done.
he will be a free agent but I dont see the market for him being enormous - he will always be an average QB whose stats are better than his performances as he plays on a loaded team with one of the best WR, TE and now RBs in the NFL - I mean you have to take into account the fact the Niners have an elite defense (probably best in the league), a great offensive line, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and now CMC - I could look pretty good with all that around me
Baker will cost five times as much and will expect to start. Sam just needs a job. I never said to bring him in as our number one.
Not really any great / long term options… Gardner Minshew would be cheap, has moxy… You let him compete with Zach for starting job next season… Draft a developmental prospect (rd 2-4) next year too… Then if nothing works out, draft a Qb in 2024 - rd.1… Like throwing darts trying to hit the bullseye… the more, the better.
