I’m curious how the defense performs against Allen ….

I respectfully disagree. He was a pro pocket passer in college running an almost identical scheme to the one we run now. His difficulties all come back to the issue of pressing and not relaxing. When he relaxes his mechanics, pocket presence and decision making fall apart. When he relaxes and just plays everything works. Which is why Saleh has been saying since early last season they have been working on getting him to relax, not overthink and just play. He made lots of improvements from last year. You can see the work he has put in. But, he keep pressing where everything makes mistakes. Sabo does a good job and I think Pavia as well as highlighting the difference between good and bad Zach. But, if things ever do click for him and he can relax he has shown the ability and the smarts to play at a very high level. He could be a dominant QB if he can mentally get himself together. The question is can Zach stop getting in his own way. Mental issues and lack of confidence snowballing downhill is what destroys most young QBs.

I totally disagree. Will watch the game and update my opinion later.

Me too. His legs are dangerous. The Ravens game we tried to contain Jackson, keep him from running and force him to beat us with his arm. We mostly did well but he beat us with some big plays. I don't think we can do the same with Allen but if we all out rush him he will break contain and rack up yards with his legs. I see this like week 18 last year where we were within 3 with less than 10 minutes to go before the wheels came off. The same strategy, try to keep it close and shorten the game and emphasize not making mistakes.

I can't agree with this; Zach has literally never played at a very high level. Not even once. The absolute best games he's ever played were borderline top 10 QB level. Which is hard to fathom; even busts have the occasional great game. But not Zach.

Agreed. Sanchez, Geno (even though he's now looking far from a bust in Seattle), and Darnold all had the occasional great game that led you to think that they could be the guy. Never have I had that feeling about Zach, even just for a fleeting moment. He's been bad the whole way and now we've hit rock bottom with this disaster of a performance. Last year he at least had the excuse of the surrounding cast being underwhelming. He doesn't have that excuse now. This team is ready to challenge for a playoff spot. He's holding it back.

I agree this team as a whole looks ready to challenge for a playoff spot. So in your opinion what should the Jets do going forward about Zach? For the rest of this year and then assuming he doesn’t impress what should they do in the offseason? Pursue a trade or use another high draft on a QB?

A reasonable post. People's expectations are not realistic.

why is it unreasonable to expect our QB to hit better than 50% of his passes? He sucked balls today even without the three picks….he can’t see open receiver, he misses open guys way too often…he was below 50% today. And unlike the last two weeks we weren’t facing the number one or number two pass defenses….it’s ridiculous.
Yes he gets this year but he is goi g to have to do WAY fucking better…he was disgusting today…

Connor Rogers hits hits the nail on the head.

    Did yesterday suck? Obviously.

Was Zach awful yesterday? No doubt.

But we're still 5-3 with very winnable games down the stretch. This season is not over because we lost to NE.

@Brook! This is a good outlook to have. Saleh/Douglas knew Zack was not ready to carry the team. That's why they traded up for Breece Hall after doing the exact same thing last year with Michael Carter. LeFleur built a strong run-centric offense to take the pressure off Zack. Not because Zack will never be a QB, because Zack had not even played a full season yet and was not ready to carry the team.

This game was kind of our first game of the year. All we've built to that point was thrown out, and a 'new offense' was implemented, with Zack's arm leading the way and with a new RB1 who had never taken a snap with his new team yet.

I actually think the team will look a bit better against the Bills than we did against the Pats. Zack's training wheels are off now, and LeFleur can start calling games like every other OC in the league. Also, our two days of practice between games will be more balanced, with Zack getting a lot more throwing reps (versus just practicing running plays).

    We'll see!

you had me until the coaches “…screwed up his confidence”. Enough with that. We’re 8 games into the season…Fields as an example is making progress. Does he have an accurate arm? No. But he s putting up some good games here and there. ZW training wells are off. He has to learn to play better. I say stick him to Bills and Pats and give him a chance to adjusts. I am behind ZW but tired of MLF is calling a terrible game, OL is shit, WRs are running poor routes, etc. some of it may be true. It simple, the kid has to play better and has to figure it out to adapt. I am not asking him to be a Herbert, Jesus, play smart!

It’s a disappointing loss that is even more disappointing because it came vs NE in a game we all thought was going to be a change in direction for both franchises.

The good news is we’ll get another shot in a couple weeks. The bad news is we’re gonna be 5-4 coming off two straight division losses.

I get it but what about this QB makes you think we will be able to accomplish anything of significance? That’s the issue. He looks awful, the team looks great. QB touches the ball every play.

Dan is right Zach needs to grow up. He doesn't throw those two stupid picks we are having a different conversation this morning.

that’s my feelings too. Good point cval. Will back him up but he’s not maturing in those decisions. Enough with the excuses, that OC is calling a bad game, enough that the OL is weak, enough we lost Breece Hall and Davis ( yes they were vital loss) but as Rex said act like it that you’re better than the Pats. Grow up? I guess that s the words to tell ZW.

I agree that it definitely isn't time to punt on the season, the Jets are still in a decent position to play meaningful football through the end of the season.

Zach needs to get his shit together though. In a game where I thought the Jets were the significantly better team, QB1 let them down yesterday.

Assuming they lose to Buffalo, Jets have a huge game in NE to try and get to 6-4 with some winnable games remaining on the schedule. We've gotten to the point now where he will need to win games, not losing games isn't going to be enough.

Let's not give up on the Bills game quite yet. This team's defense is built to beat the Bills. Zach needs to come to play.
