Every kick he kicked was around the 10-17 yd line and it basically gave the Pats great field position every time.

Hell of a kicker for FG's, but my goodness can he kick any softer?

a kicker taken in the 2nd round should be kicking touchbacks AND 55 yarders. You don't take a one-dimensional kicker that high.

You guys have to get over it, we picked him he is on this team so we have to deal with it. At least he has become an accurate kicker.

Nugent has been amazing on field-goals, but I agree that we may need to give up a roster for a kickoff specialist. 10-15 yards makes a huge difference..

Let Graham take a stab at kickoffs. He has a booming leg. Let Nuge do what he does best (at least since Tennessee) hit field goals.

its wierd but we havent had a guy kicking touchbacks going back to Pat Lahey. I dont understand if he can kick 55 yarders why nugent cant kick it further.

You're totally wrong--this is not something to "get over." He's an accurate kicker, but he gives the other team a short filed (and momentum) after every kickoff. NE's kicker was putting them in the end zone and Nugent barely made the 20--IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NEXT YEAR.

I think we all overestimate what Graham can actually do. Some people on here have him catching passes, running with the ball, lining up as QB, kicking kickoffs. To tell you the truth, I haven't even been incredibly impressed with him on punts. He is more of a one dimensional punter than anything else. He can punt a booming kick 65 yards but he is horrible at putting the ball close to the goal line on short punts. He either punts it into the endzone or punts it so short that the ball ends up at the 13-15. Graham needs to work on his punting before he learns to do anything else

Unfortunately he was supposed to strengthen the leg last offseason, but it didn't seem to make any difference in his distance (no one can complain about his accuracy at this point).

The story with Graham has been that he has never kicked off a tee in his life, so there really is no way to know if he can do it or not. I would certainly hope that they would give it a try, since I would hate to use up a roster spot on a kickoff specialist.

Funny. Actually, on kickoffs, the average field position of the 2 teams wasn't far off.

34 yardline for NE. 29 yardline for the Jets.

Its all about the net average, not the gross.

If you look at the year long stats on NFL.com, the kickers that had the big legs also had the longest return averages. The net starting position was very similar for most teams.

The reality is much better than the perception.

John Hall used to kick them often in his first couple years. For some reason his kickoffs became shorter in following seasons.

I proabably should have used the qoute thing but I was getting more at people saying he should beable to do kickoffs because he was a 2nd round pick. Thats what I meant we should get over.

Graham is not the answer. He has been punting the ball all his life, kicking off is a completely different motion.

Seriously, in the modern-day NFL how many successful punters also kicked off? There are none that I am aware of.

While I agree that taking a kicker with a somewhat weak but albeit accurate leg in the 2nd. round is insane, our FO then did not agree.

I think this FO is intelligent enough to realize that field position is of utmost importance in Playoff games. That being said.................

Seriously though did field position really hurt us today? I think not. Our inability to stop the Pats on 3rd. down is what killed us. Be it from a run or pass they were just better executing on third down than we were stopping it.

Had the Pats started from their own 10 yard line every time the results today were still going to be the same.

The sad part is I do not think the Jets can afford to keep two kickers. Until the FO finds a lights out kicker that can get a bunch of touchbacks every week, we have what we have....................... Mr. Nugent.

Have you been watching the games this season? Nugent's kicks usually come up short. Just be happy the Jets now have a dependable FG kicker.
