Enjoy it, Eric....'cause next year, everyone on this forum.....the press...the fans...the commentators...is going to EXPECT 11-5 and a bye/division win. Beware the Parcells Factor of 2003: he got the Cowboys into the playoffs and had a much better record than expected....instead of a rebuilding year and a high draft pick, they were very good and had a low pick....the next year, instead of improvement to 7-9 or something like that being acceptable, the bar was set alot higher. Ditto Year 3. And this year. I think the Jets are in much better shape because we won't blow our salary cap on an idiot like T.O. or overpriced FA's (hopefully) like Jason Ferguson etc. Still: it gets ALOT tougher for all of us. We won't sneak up on anybody next year, the schedule is tougher, we are unlikely to be as healthy (Chad included though I think he can play 16 again next year), and the draft and FA class are not looking really juicy at this point.
The sked is tougher, we won't be able to sneak up on anyone, so we had better get some better personell in there. We're good, but not good enough right now to unseat NE and reach a Super Bowl.
If you have watched this team all year you know that the Jets will come out prepared and with better talent next year. We do face a tougher schedule but we are also a more experienced team with better players.
Come on guys, I see his point. It would take a huge effort to improve over this year. I'll be expecting 11-12 wins but a playoff run.
What some people son't quite understand is that while we were helped by the schedule, we won and didn't get caught by too many let down games because of the consistency this coach has instilled into the team. We will be fine next year.
we need to draft a skill player for once, we got pretty lucky with brad smith and teams are afraid of him...we need more young skill players
I think everyone is a little scared of tanking next year. Considering it has become some sort of theme for this organazation, but I think Mangini is the right guy for this team. I think we finally have a strong foundation with the FO, and they know what is best for this team. I only see us tanking next season if we are plagued with injuries right out of the gate like 05'. I am hoping for the best, and hoping for a strong offseason.
WHOA....WHOA.....WHOA......I used the Cowboys example just to illustrate. I do NOT think the Jets will tank next year. It IS a definite that it will be alot harder to go from 10 wins in 2006 to 12 or 13 wins in 2007. Hey, look at Parcells with the Jets in 1997 vs. 1998 -- see my point ?? To me, the key is: can we get a player like Curtis Martin who helped jump us up 3 wins ? Can we get a Kevin Maawe to strengthen the OL? Can we get a 6-5, 340 pound run-stuffer to help free up Robertson ? I am not a classless Jets fan, I'm a realist. I have faith in Mangini and Tannenbaum and the salary cap situation is comforting, but I wouldn't mind being very aggressive in the draft, too (maybe trading future picks for more this year -- OR, if we have a great FA class, trading picks this year for down the line).
I don't think our scenario heading into next year is something we have seen recently. We're young, but we have a lot of cap room to bring in marquee free agents. We have 3 picks in the first 2 rounds, we can bring in more young talent. We will move forward, guaranteed.
There is no guarantee of anything. The Jets could have the 6-10 season they were supposed to have this year. I agree with the original post. We ain't sneaking up on anybody. The Jets need to improve in a lot of areas. Luckily we have the cap space to plug a lot of holes through Free Agency. The Jets do have this annoying pattern of 1 step forward, 2 steps back...
Patriots fan here The Pats schedule next year is tough. I think the Jets win the division. Hoping the Pats get a wildcard.
Don't forget the Pats have allot of money to work with as well next year.. Oh yeah, two first rounders in the next draft:chargers:
