Makes sense. With a sure blowout that's coming by the end of 3th quarter, Jets want to use Chris Streveler to run up the score in the 4th. Seriously though, I said before to me Chris is clear #3 over Mike White, whom he outperformed by wide margin in preseason. Given the current state of the offensive line, I am not sure putting Flacco as a back-up is a great idea. For that matter Mike White is not very mobile either. Could it be that Streveler is actually there to be main back up for Zach?
They’re going to use him akin to what the Saints do with Taysom Hill. New England had a really hard time stopping Lamar and Fields.
Sounds like the Jet High Command is preparing to throw the perverbial kitchen sink at BB. Streveler activated means White inactive or SloJoe?
You think he is actually going to play for some of these QB design run situations/trick plays? I know they used him to help emulate Lamar's game, maybe he actually decent job In all seriousness, I actually like this move. Chris's skillset to me is the closest to Zach out of all back-ups, particularly the mobility aspect of it. White and Flacco are statues. And Streveler is better than White anyway, which he proved in preseason. At that time though his experience with play-book was limited and Zach was injured, so they trusted White to be main back-up. However, two months later they may be more comfortable with Chris' playbook knowledge and now perhaps view him as a main back-up or #3, particularly in light of porous Oline and need for QB mobility.
I think Streveler is just there for the possibility the Jets get blown out by the 3rd quarter and they really don't want to leave ZW on the field in a pass-pass-pass situation against Belichik. In that situation you put Streveler in and let him do whatever he is going to do and no pressure on the QB situation unless he is so good that we win.
If Judon levels Wilson like he did last season they want a mobile QB. Or as Ian at Jets Central points out he could be used for certain packages to keep New England off balance. Certainly a balsy move by Saleh and LaFleur to screw with Darth Belichick's head.
Streveler does match his skill set the most. I actually think they should’ve played Streveler when Wilson went down. He’s definitely getting some gadget plays.
If the Jets get blown out by this New England team they way bigger problems that protecting Zach Wilson in a pass-pass-pass scenario.
Its to late to scheme any run designs for Streveler, considering he hasn't practiced with us all season. Its probably a really bad idea to try and get him the ball on Sunday. I have no clue what they are thinking but hopefully we're pleasantly surprised.
