I'm catching up on some games, watching Chiefs-Bills, and it's a great contest, but Romo just WILL NOT STOP TALKING.
He may talk a lot but he's great at what he does. The man knows his football and often gets the calls right up in the booth
I don't doubt he knows his stuff, but the art of broadcasting includes knowing to shut your cake hole every now and then. The guy gives me a headache. And his job is not to call plays before they happen, it is to comment on them after they happen. It isn't a circus act.
To the average football fan I think it's pretty neat. Hey this might happen here because they are showing this, then it happens. I like Romo quite a bit b/c he teaches you stuff you may never have known. What's he supposed to do? Explain it after the play while the next play is occurring? Hard thing to do IMO. If you wanna talk about never shutting the hell up you should have watched Bob Costas do the ALCS. That guy makes Adam Archuleta and Jay Feely look like Mike Tirico
I like romo, he’s just up there talking football like he’s watching with the boys. Probably the best in the business right now
He brings an energy and enthusiasm to the booth other color guys just don't have. I like it. I don't believe he does the predicting plays before they happen thing as often as he did early in his broadcasting career.
I agree with this 100%. At the beginning it was almost a parlor trick when he would predict multiple plays on a drive. He now does it much less often, but is still in my opinion the most informative color guy out there, and as you say, also brings energy and enthusiasm.
He brings out jealousy also - a couple of years ago Brent Musburger criticized his style. How long has he been irrelevant now? I remember him being kind of long winded and whiny. Romo is good at what he does and he is more interesting than Colinsworth, Buck, etc.
I seem to be in a minority of one! That's okay, I think he could be really good if he would calm down a bit. When I was watching the Bills-Chiefs game there were several times where he was talking over plays - at one point he was jabbering about who would have the biggest home field advantage in the playoffs while the Bills were on a drive. He talked over two or three plays as if nothing important was going on. That's the kind of thing I mean. At the right time, it would have been an interesting conversation, but the game was happening. But I'm not going to die on this hill, I get that most people really like him and that's fine. Like I said, I think I would really like him too if he cut his wordage by about half!
He does talk a lot but I would rather listen to him than Colinsworth mention Tom Brady 20 times during the first quarter, I literally watch the game on mute when Chris is the announcer. Romo is also still a rookie announcer, I believe it’s been 5 years since he started, give him some time and I’m sure he will refine his timing for talking and letting the game speak for itself.
