I agree. I don't think we had a real good all around offensive game but that's a sign of a good team, when pass game sputters, the ground game comes up big time & vice-versa. If you are a defensive coach what part of our offense do you try to shut down, the run game, then we will burn you with our pass game. This team is so well rounded you can't really take one player out and cause our offense to slow down. EXAMPLE: We are totally different team than the Giants. If you take away Barkley or lose him to injury, their offense is toast.

I'm ecstatic! We've been a laughingstock--literally-- for several years and now we are back to being a competitive NFL team with some exciting young players! Thanks mostly to our running game, defense, and special teams. I like Joe D and Saleh and I think MLF will get better as he gets more seasoned. Zach is still a massive question mark and this is the million dollar question as we move through the season.

I think you're discounting Zack a little too much. Given the packers strong pass defense, the Jets approached the game with the idea to rely upon their defense and their running game and have Zack play a conservative game and not take many risks, unless they were behind presumably (as they were never behind, they never felt the need to have Zack take risks). Given the strong packers pass rush, their solid secondary, and the packer defense's familiarity with the Jets offense (given that its basically the same as the packers offense they practice against every day), it was a sensible plan. I also suspect that the Jets receivers had difficulty getting open against the good packers CBs, so Zack may not have left a lot of yards on the field.

The question about Zack is not how great his stats are, but can he win the game for you when you need him to (like he did in Pittsburgh). If you can win with Zack playing a game manager role and you don't need him to throw 30+ passes for 300+ yards and 2+ TDs each game, that's a good thing and the Jets shouldn't have him throwing excessively in those situations or taking unnecessary risks. Having a QB that can play a safe game without turning over the ball and operate as a game manager when that is sufficient is a good thing. In the last two games, the Jets won by multiple scores, so we didn't need to see any Zack Wilson theatrics or for him to take unnecessary risks. Remember that he still hasn't even played 17 games.

I think that’s part of the reason the coaching staff throttled him the first few games of the year. I also wouldn’t be surprised if MC took on a bigger share in certain situations and games esp later in the season.

Some people forget, it’s not just the longer season as much as they had no off period last year. They go straight from their season to the combine to private workouts to rookie camp.

1st draft is an F. 2nd draft is still TBD based on how Zach does. Could end up anywhere from D if Zach busts and the rest of the guys don't live up to their potential to A if Zach becomes a top QB. 3rd draft so far is an A.

Just gonna say that passer rating is a shitty stat, and the advanced metrics have Zach as somewhere around a league average QB.

And average is all he needs to be - and all they've asked him to be - so far. But the flashes he's shown also show that he can be much more than average. Don't forget that he missed 7 weeks this year and has only had 3 weeks to develop chemistry his teammates and they him. If the Jets can continue to run the ball like they have, that will give Zach time to become comfortable and more confident, and then you'll see those flashes become much more frequently.

One thing that should be encouraging to Jets fans is that Zach doesn't really seem concerned with his stats. He's focused on doing what it takes to win, and I believe that's why he's making so few mistakes and why the the team is 3-0 since he's returned.

Maybe... but "league average" ain't gonna cut it against the Bills and the Pats.

We need to figure out a pass game that nets us more yardage and 3rd down conversions.

Unfortunately, the game was not televised here in New England.

The key to the Jets winning this game was running the ball and being physical. They clearly executed this game plan that I called out in a previous post.

Looking at the highlights, it looks like Aaron Rogers was shaken by the pressure the Jet's defense was getting on him.

I was expecting a Packers victory based on their running game and being at Lambeau. The Jet's defense did a much better job on the Packer's running game than I expected. I am so glad I was wrong.

The Jet's defensive front and their run blocking impressed me. The only negative thing I can say is their passing game could have been better.

Some of my Patriots friends think the Pats will have no problem beating the Jets this year twice. I think they are clearly underestimating the Jets. Perhaps this victory will convince them to get their heads out of their ___.

Beating the Packers at Lambeau is a big deal. Coming into this game, the Packers had won 12 straight regular-season games at home.

Brook may you and all the forum members enjoy this victory.

    Go Jets!

I guess that's my point too. With the rest of the team playing lights out, LeFleur is fine giving Zack a conservative GP that allows him to make throws within his current ability. LeFleur doesn't need to have ZW air it out 40 times to give our team a chance to win. I think Z will develop better this way. Taking care of the ball and taking what's there with no need for hero ball. So far it seems to be working, but we'll need to see ZW grow at least some every game. Maybe by the end of the season he'll have progressed to where we wanted him to start the season at!

So the thing that is important for the Jets right now to contend is the defense. The secondary thing is the running game. Through 5 games the defense was pedestrian to poor with the Jets wins coming against teams that had a bad QB in the game.

This week the defense was outstanding. If that was a level raise then the Jets can contend this season. If it's just a week to week thing then the Jets will win some and lose some which is a hell of a lot better than getting beaten like a drum.

The running game is quite good, primarily because Breece Hall is quite good. It's also good based on the general premise that when you have a big patchwork line it's a lot easier to run the ball well than to protect the QB. If Hall stays healthy and the OL gels a bit the Jets offense can easily maintain some control in most games just by running the ball well and not turning it over.

ZW is standing in for Mark Sanchez in this offense right now and we know that if everything else is working at a high level that is enough to contend. If he actually starts playing well the Jets will be able to go toe to toe with almost anybody.

Honestly i am just waiting for the wheels to fall off Brook. I don’t have as many years of experience as some of the people here but it’s kind of sad that after 20+ years I know not to get my expectations up. Just week by week for me. Yesterday was amazing, but i still have no expectations. Lets just play good football this Sunday

I'd be grateful I'd someone could educate me. I'm on the other side of the pond from you guys.

I'd like to know if seasoned fans think that the Jets improved results are down to their improvement compared to the opposition under performing, if you see what I mean.

To me, not even close to being expert, it seems there has been some great improvement. The defence yesterday seemed awesome. Quinnell Williams standing out in particular.

Do others agree with that a lot of the good performances are down to the Jets improvement and not underperformance of the opposition.

Which games of say the next four will be the biggest test / marker of their improvement?

    Cheers

Zach won the game in Pitt, played very well
In Miami and struggled the first half last week. Then makes a great couple of throws

In a cold rainy day the opponents HOF QB struggles our defense it great. Are QB struggles in the same conditions he sucks.

Come-on guys. Zach did what he needed to do on a non friendly passing day. He did not make the big mistake and made some timely throws.
