Saleh and the coaching staff overall

I understand that the Jets are 3-2. Most with this bunch are feeling good about the team, the others well you know. I personally stated that I thought Saleh like some was perhaps in over his head as a coach overall. Despite some of Saleh's flaws as an X&O's coach, he's certainly improved over the past few weeks. Saleh's greatest strength even back with the 49ers was his ability to reach his talented players on the defensive side. Those guys loved him even Richard Sherman who was primarily a Seahawk but played under Saleh for a short time has nothing but glowing things to say about him, and we know Sherman is very opinionated. I think we all can agree that Saleh is a likeable guy who's still trying to figure out how to be a genuinely good head coach. These guys like Saleh, and I honestly never felt and it was clearly proven that with Adam Gase, and even Todd Bowles overall. I mean look at Bowles in Tampa Bay right now. Outside of the major injuries on the O-Line, Brady is the driving force. Just look at Mike Evans suspension when he shoved Lattimore and got a suspension. He was trying to protect Brady and even mouthed that to the refs. Rex at the beginning had the players believing in him until he became a caricature of himself and couldn't adapt.

My point is, we don't have any established stars, or high maintenance individuals on this team to shake up the chemistry. Think back to even when Saleh made his "Taking Receipts" comment and we beat the Browns, however fortunate the Jets got. They got the job down. The following week a loss to the winless Bengals, and looked very ordinary without getting a serious ass kicking. I'm focusing on the team chemistry, not the overall numbers over the past two weeks. Yeah, I get the Jets played against Trubisky, Pickett, and Thompson overall. Yes "darksiders" I know. I don't see the Jets of last year winning these type of close or X&O's type of games. I do think Saleh and the coaching staff have done a good job of calling plays on the offensive side and keeping things simple. Especially considering we have a lot more talent offensively. I honestly can't complain about our defense overall. Haven't been blown out and are playing tough. Pass rushing is the only big need. I believe that some of our veteran players are stepping it up because they have belief in something. It might ultimately be fool's gold which would make sense with this organization and fan base, but these guys have Saleh's back IMO.

I don't think Saleh suddenly changed from a mediocre coach to an improved coach over a few weeks. Rather, I think that Saleh has been doing the kind of job he's been doing for the past 1-1/3 seasons, but he's finally getting the talent necessary to win some games. Some of that was free agency this offseason, and some was the amazing 2022 draft class that now has enough games under its belt that we're starting to see the early results.

IMHO, a good coach (or an improved coach) doesn't magically make the team better the next week. It takes time. It has taken time. It will take some more time.

Fair enough, I won't argue that point. I said he's improved, perhaps he's become less stubborn then. We have talented players yes, but even you can agree the play calling has been better over the time period.

I never said Saleh was a good head coach btw

Decent talent will tend to improve with experience--coaches and players--so ya, I agree he's improved as have most of the team.

The one thing he always brought was that optimistic/good feeling aura that allows good team chemistry. That's something that is native to him and is an asset.

Less dumb calls mean he and the CS have improved

Let's rethink all the comments here after the GB game (..ie the GB Jets Victory!!)

Still high off of last week eh? I need to see more. We should take this topic up at the bye week because they have @GB @DEN NE BUF untill then. If they can go into the bye 6-3 or better, we might have something here. I am not saying this team is the SOJ, but facts are facts - the SOJ lose every one of these games and go limping into the bye (making it bye-bye for the season at that point) @ 3-6. Let's see where this team stacks up after BUF. A more realistic record will be 4-5 or 5-4 perhaps, or at least I hope :) They need to win a couple of these tough games to show they've turned the corner on the way to respectability.

When you win, All Gas No Brake sounds awesome. The Jets need to keep winning but overall Saleh has done fine. Not great, not terrible. The team is making progress, which is what we all want to see. He really can't be judged week to week though. It will take the whole season to truly evaluate how far the Jets have come. So far, so good.

Thank God he stopped with the slogans and jingles. Just coach winning football and let the inspiration come from that. This isn't College or HS, these are grown men. He has grown as a HC and it appears his staff has grown along with him. Judging by the lack of idiotic penalties, it appears the team is finally growing up as well..

In contrast, there's the Broncos who might be on the verge of firing their HC & CS already. If it comes to pass, it couldn't happen to a more entitled group of fans.:) Seeing what they're going through is the kind of things the Jets have "treated" their fans to for decades. I sure hope they continue to flounder for at least a few more weeks, if not decades.

Slogans and "jingles" are fine if they help to motivate, and they sometimes do. You don't think the Steel Curtain provided some motivation to that team? But you need to earn it first. The Jets a re still "cashing" checks at Payday Loans.

Good point, I didn't even think about that. Hackett looks completely in over his head, and a guy like Josh McDaniels who won Super Bowls and been around a great culture seems to have bad luck. Brandon Staley as well.

My first sentence was meant to imply that it's still early, and hopefully I like most want this team to remain competitive. Nothing to do about being "high" from last week or the week prior. We are already more then a quarter of the season through, and everyone has played and coached above expectations. Good scrappy bunch.

We’ve played better, but yeah not to be a darksider but we’ve beaten bottom tier QBs including two who were playing in their first game.

still, previous Jets teams would have made them look like world beaters, much like we did Baker when he came in for the second half against us.

    so that’s progress.

but these next four games will show where we really are. Rodgers, Wilson, and Allen are top QBs though neither Rodgers nor Wilson are playing like they’re capable of lately. NE who knows at QB but they are still tough and we need to beat them.

And GB and Den are on the road and tough places to play.

so we are going to learn a lot about what we are these next four games.

I think our overall talent matches up well against all but Buffalo honestly…

GB is desperate and at home so this will not be an easy game…I think we have the horses to win but not confident that we will

Denver we should also compete and if we can keep Russell down we have a shot, but it’s hard to win there and especially so for us…we don’t win there often if ever

We should be able to beat NE…just have to overcome great coaching there…but this is an important game for us psychologically…we have to kill the big bad wolf

Buffalo just not much of a chance here …. They are a legitimate Suoerbowl contender and we are not there yet

if we can go 2-2 through this stretch that would show progress to me

I don't see a lot on the X's and O's side that gets me excited about this coaching staff.

On the other hand, the culture and attitude change of the organization since Saleh came in is greater than anything I've seen since Parcells came to town. When is the last time you saw a Jets team that refused to stop believing it could win no matter what?
--Honestly, this is more impressive, because Parcells brought several "Parcells Guys" with him which did a lot to seed the culture he wanted to cultivate. Rex Ryan infused some needed attitude, but he was bringing that to a talented veteran roster that was just fed up with Mangini, he basically just let those guys loose, which worked until it didn't.

I have to say, I think the culture and attitude aspect is much more critical for this franchise than X's and O's. As we go from a young roster to a more veteran roster that hand handle a thicker playbook, we'll find out if this coaching staff is ready for that part or not.

My point exactly. You can clearly see attitude that guys play with now on this squad. This has always been Saleh's strength. As far as X&O's I guess that's more of a Lafleur thing is the playing calling on offense has been on point for this type of offense, especially easing Zach back into it.

Oh for sure. Excellent post btw. As I mentioned in my original post and even named the QB's we have faced isn't top tier, but this team has a fire in them that makes it fun to watch.

It'll be interesting to see how this team unfolds for the rest of the season. I think at least past the quarter mark Saleh and Co. deserve a few props for holding this together. We know this ship easily could have gone down hill fast in the hands of others guys, staring at you Adam Gase.

next four games will tells us about this CS, players and overall team. Win consistency is the goal...with attitude that we can beat everyone. That is where they should be headed... we'll see.

I'm still not sold on Ulbrich or MLF, but MLF can hopefully learn a little when more experience and it will curb some of his more confusing decisions.

Ulbrich needs to put a full game together in terms of the game plan. I have very little faith in him getting better.
