It is amazing after a miracle win in a game we had no business being close
based off of the play on the field against one of the only franchises
as pathetic as the Jets, with a backup QB Brissette at the helm will do
    to Jets fans.

I voted no, but for me the question of the year is not whether we make the playoffs, but whether Zach is our FQB. If he is, then LFG. If not, then FFS.

You're definitely not getting that answer this year. At best, we may begin to see if there are signs he can be a competent starting NFL quarterback.

Change the title of this thread because the Jets will beat both the Bengals and the Steelers in successive weeks. So make this thread read:
Do you think we make the playoffs if we are 3-1 after the Steelers game?

I am still enjoying the shocking win from last week, but I also recognize it' came in part because it was over a fellow dumpster fire organization that is Cleveland. This team still has a variety of problems and challenges and, to me, has a lot more to prove to show they are a playoff team,. My win total hope for this year therefore remans unchanged at 7 or 8. I still want to see us play competitive games and show an offense that is exciting to watch more weeks than not.

To torture myself a little though, I went back to look at our outcome stats going back to 2016. As we all know too well, 2015 was our last winning season but I was curious with us sitting at 1-1 now how many times we were at or above .500 at any point during a season since then. The results are reminders of just how bad we've been during the last half dozen years:

    - Last time we were at .500 during the season was after week 6 of 2018
    - Haven't been above .500 since after week 1 of 2018
    - Since 2015, we have spent only 6 weeks at .500 - after week 2 of 2016, after weeks 4 and 6 of 2017, after weeks 2 and 6 of 2018 and this week right now.
    - Since 2015, we have spent only 2 weeks above .500 - after week 5 of 2017 and after week 1 of 2018.

Extra pathetic when you consider that since 2015 until now, there have been 99 weeks of football. I think we are finally on a better trajectory and I'm glad we broke the September win drought streak, but I'd love to see more of those awful droughts fall but I'm not sure we shall see that happen this season. Both Cincy and Pittsburgh (after last night's loss) are desperate for wins these next 2 weeks and as such I'm not optimistic about our chances for winning either game.

If we look good in a win this week many people will view this thread very differently. And its a very winnable game.

If the season ended today, we'd be the 6th seed.

Tough game Sun. against a club that is further along in their rebuild. Don't get carried away. Still a long way to go.

I don't know about the second half of the schedule. Some of the teams that were looking like sure wins , like Jags & lions, Seahawks are looking pretty good, but so are we:). It's going to be a interesting second half of this season.

Do I think we make the playoffs? No. But would we have a chance? Sure.

This team has a wide range of outcomes.
    - How fast has Zach developed?
    - Can we get above average OL play at some point like we hoped we'd get entering the year?
    - Can the pass rush live up to the hype/resources invested?
    - How fast do the rookies develop?

If we get positive answers for most of those questions, then the playoffs are a possibility.

Assuming the Bills, Ravens and Chiefs win their divisions, and the AFC South remains a one-bid league, you're competing with these teams for a WC spot (sub in your favorite AFCW or AFCN team as a division winner instead if you want).
    - Chargers (legit)
    - Dolphins (probably legit, but we play them twice)
    - Bengals (questionable, but we can get a tiebreaker this week)
    - Broncos (questionable, and we play them)
    - Browns (questionable AND we own the tiebreaker)
    - Raiders (questionable)
    - Patriots (questionable)

All of those teams have question marks. All are probably better than the Jets, but if the Jets hit their ceiling, and we get lucky in close games, it isn't completely insane. We also already own a head-to-head over the Browns, and if we're starting 2-2, maybe that means we have one over the Bengals, too. I saw a sportsbook we were 8-1 to make the playoffs. I think we make it over 12.5% of the time.

Theres a great possibility we may not win another all season, now Flacco is the greatest QB ever, and we're talking playoffs lol

But the reality of the situation is the Jets only have luck with old Jag QBs, they sure as hell can't draft them.

I agree with the many who have said that Cleveland lost the game and could have won it. However, that's true for a lot of NFL games, and there are a lot of playoff teams each year that wouldn't be in the playoffs if some of their opponents hadn't made critical mistakes along the way. We will continue to play opponents who sometimes make a big mistake; the question is whether we can continue to capitalize.

    My take:
    * We looked pretty good last week.
    * Once Sauce and Joyner clean up their communication regarding when to pass off the receivers, we will significantly cut down the number of big plays our defense gives up.
    * Breece Hall is off to a good start and should continue to improve, and our OL should gel at least a little bit more. As those things happen do, Breece will start putting up even better stats.

We're not a SB caliber team, but as our rookies continue to get better, I think we are capable of becoming a playoff team if a few balls bounce our way. If we start 1-4, I don't think we're good enough to dig out of that hole. But if we start 2-2, it means we're better than a lot of board members are giving us credit for, and I think we'll have an outside shot at the playoffs.

Very nicely put together. I’m an eternal optimist when it comes to the Jets and hope for a win every week. But, reality tells us that while we are getting better still have a way to go with this young team. However is not completely insane like you said, if we play tough and competitive, we get some luck on our side for a change, to be in a position to have at least some real meaningful games the last quarter if things go bad with other teams as a long shot.
All and all, at least be in the running to screw the Pats first, and Miami second, with a win when the chips are down for them.

way too early. the season is long and we should be 0-2 right now if the browns didn't implode.
on the bright side we have a lot of young talent and a bright future, especially if Wilson can step up at QB. only needs right now to me are S, O-line, and LBer
