I wouldnt mind ashworth neither i knew he was going after him, i think he can grow, mawae was in the probowl the last six seasons starting at 29-30 not saying ashworth is mawae but it shows one can get better at 30.

Hasn't every Pat caught a TD at some point?

I would like to pick up Ashworth. No, he isn't the best possible choice, but there is one key to it: he would no longer be a Pat. It's always good to grab talent from a division rival.

Jack, I know you're just trying to be the voice of reason, but dude, nobody listens to the voice of reason around here. He was an ex-Patriot, that means he's an automatic HOFer to most people.

    Agreed

    10 picks=4 o-line, 3 d-line, Leinart, and a CB

I think that may be a bit of a stretch. (obviously)

I don't think anyone expects this guy to dominate the line of scrimmage, but I do consider him a good player if he did start for the patriots.

I would like the signing because we need OL in the worst way.

D'Brick is not necessary. Jones is an inexpensive and servicable LT and still has a ton of room to grow. We should take a RB or someone like AJ Hawk/Mario Williams at 4, and then we can draft Mangold at 29 and a RT such as McNeill or O'Callaghan at 35. O'Callaghan is exactly what we need by the way... a huge mauling run blocking RT that will pave the way for whoever is running the ball next season.

Exactly. Like when both the Yanks and Sox pursued Schilling. The Yanks hate Schilling, but the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

And if he fills a need, all the better!

    I know. . . I know. A long work week leads to tapioca-brain..

I'm not against signing the guy, because I'm thinking he's certainly better than what we have. But, on points like this, I look to DW and Nightowl - neither of whom seem to care one whit whether Ashworth stays with or leaves New England. He was second string player forced into action because of injury. All we seem to know is that he started. Great. It's the warm-body approach to personnel.

EDIT: And what's with ElectricCedric playing Ed McMahon to PJ's Johnny Carson?

He would be a great signing. Him or Shaffer ill be fine with.

  12. Ashworth is a no nonsense guy who is tough and smart. You aren't gonna see any pro bowls next to his name or dominating performances;but he'll get the job done.

He has the ability to get to the second level in the running game and he'll keep the QB on his feet 9 times out of 10. He's had some injury problems over the past couple years and that will need to be looked into. But Ashworth is a tough smart guy we can count on for the right side of our line.

  14. I see what you're saying Jack, just wanna make one correction..

Ashworth was a 2nd string thrown into starting duty 2-3 years ago, and since, never gave up his starting spot. The only reason he didnt start most of this past year was due to injury, not production.

He was most likely the Pats third best OL behind Light and Neal.

Is he a pro bowler? No. Is he dependable, smart and consistent? Absolutely.

Young player with four NFL seasons. Why would Bellichek let him go? Maybe because he missed more games (16) in the last three seasons than John Abraham. History of a bad back.

Chatham isn't starting material, but he can fill in in certain situations and he effective. I think it was two years ago he forced a fumble against the Giants and returned it for a touch down. His real worth is on special teams. With Magini not falling very far from the Belichick tree, I'm sure he thinks special teams is just as important as offense and defense.

I'm not sure about Ashworth. Andruzzie left for Cleveland and didn't have a great year. The Patriots have the ability to make the most out of late round or undrafted free agents on the offensive line. If Ashworth left, he might not be as solid as he was in New England.

I we draft D'Brick, we are giving up on Adrian Jones, which I don't think this team is ready to do. Jones can't play RT, are we all forgetting this?

Sources have told PewterReport.com that (New England Patriots) free agent offensive tackle Tom Ashworth is flying to Tampa tonight to meet with the Buccaneers.

Bucs fans may remember Ashworth from this year's Bucs-Patriots game when he scored the opening touchdown for New England on a goal line pass play as a tackle-eligible receiver. He also dominated Simeon Rice while playing left tackle in that game and did not allow Rice to get a sack on QB Tom Brady.

Ashworth is currently visiting the New York Jets and will fly to Tampa tonight to meet with the Buccaneers before flying to Miami tomorrow to meet with the Dolphins.

If we are to get Leinart, we will have less than 10 picks to work with.

I'd take Ashworth, but he isn't anything spectacular just a solid football player. I'd still love to draft McNeill with #29 or Jean-Gilles!
