ZW has to find a way to stay on the field. Honestly, he's only had fleeting moments. Nobody is writing off ZW in '22, but if he can't stay healthy, what good is he to the Jets? The upside is that the FO/CS publically swears fealty to Wilson with endless compliments and platitudes however, we haven't seen it translate into wins as of yet. As Wilson goes, so goes this CS. They have a lot invested in Wilson and they won't pull the plug until there's simply no other option. Wilson has to help himself though. He has to prove he can stay healthy, then prove he can win games. Not a lot to ask of a professional NFL QB. Especially a No.2 DP. At most, ZW gets one more year. I think '23 will be the make or break year for the kid. Bottom line? ZW has to show us something other than potential. We need to see concrete proof he can play winning football.
Probably not a smart idea to be on the sidelines while barely being able to walk with a knee injury and second he is supposed to give his knee rest for the bone bruise and should not be walking around. Being in the booth he can have the headphones on, hear the play, possibly contribute, and get the best view of what is happening. He probably should have stayed home but I doubt they can keep him away from the facility.
I gotta call BS if Wilson's so injured he can't stand with crutches on the sidelines for a couple hours then we shouldn't expect him the first month of the regular season at all. Fortunately I think you are just wrong because even Flacco said he's been moving around well this week.
If this is the case, he should have been up in the booth with LeFleur.. In fact, until he's playing again, that's exactly where Wilson should be located every Sunday.
He was in a booth with the headphones on. Likely listening and possibly contributing to the play calls. Similar to what he did last year when injured during games when injured. During practice he has been in the golf cart and not on the sidelines which also seems like the safest place with practice going on.
Why do offensive coordinators sit in the booth? To get a better view of the action, to not be affected by the "Missing the forest for the trees" effect of being too close to it. That's the logical explanation. But the explanation you want is that he doesn't care about his teammates and thinks he's above them all. Keep believing what you want to believe.
I don't think it is realistic to give up on the #2 overall pick after 1 season where he actually looked much better towards the end of the season. I don't care about stats either. He clearly will improve on them. The injury concern is a valid one, but also can't be used against him until he truly misses time. His knee injury last year was a blessing, as he was able to take a step back and learn. This year's injury is unfortunate, but hopefully only temporary and he won't miss much time. I don't mind fans being concerned about Zach. They should be. Things have not gone smoothly so far. Expecting the worst is not good though, especially when we can see he is making progress. I personally think Zach and the entire Jets franchise are about to turn a corner. We will see.
No ones giving up on Wilson. We have to support him and hope he pans out. But here is an interesting question: If the Bears said, "we'll give you Fields for Wilson straight up", would you do it?
You said injured players. Injured QBs don't usually remain in the game. And while they may finish the game on the sidelines (or in the locker room), if they're rehabbing they often are up in the booth to see and learn, especially if they're young QBs. I think I've broken this down enough for you now.
Sure its gamble. But we wanted someone who was mobile and has a big arm. Fields ticks both of those, and with Zach's injury situation, Fields has a more promising future.
