our franchise is definitely going in the right direction under the new regime. i absolutely hate herm edwards because he was/is an inept moron that only got the head coaching job because of his "martin luther" esque personality. we needed a football coach, not a motivational speaker. we finally got one in mangini that pays attention to detail and gives us a chance to win the game each week. the point of this thread was to discuss the movement (specifically the offseason) that our team should make in order to continue the success and win a superbowl by the year 2010. priority #1- we need a running game since it will allow us to have a balanced offense and it will make chad pennington even more special. all this talk about getting marshawn lynch is nice, but it all started before we knew we were playoff bound. now, our draft pick is too late in the 1st round and marshawn will be long gone. there is a rumor that washington is willing to trade clinton portis this offseason due to his contract and the fact that ladell betts is doing a great job. i really think we should make a push to get him. he will be 26 next season and is coming off a hand injury which is much different than a torn ACL/or other serious injuries. portis is a sick running back that is top 5 when healthy. he's proved it with two different offensive schemes. if we can get him for the #37th overall pick, that would be incredible. portis himself was drafted by denver with the #51st pick in the draft in 2002. washington will want to get some worth since they will not want to keep portis/betts/duckett. getting a their pick back would make sense for them considering they have a lot of rebuilding to do for their sad franchise. priority #2- get a 3-4 DE to replace kimo von oelhoffen. if we can get a RB with the first second rounder, we should immediately set our sights in drafting a DL with our 1st round pick. my choice would be adam carriker from nebraska since he has enormous size and talent and should fit our scheme perfectly. he is 6'6 300 lbs and could become our richard seymour. he would be a DL that could be rotated among any of the front 3 at different times. if we got portis and carriker with our first 2 picks in the 2007 draft, our team might seriously give the pats a run for their money next season. priority #3- get adalius thomas from FA. there is no way the ravens can afford to keep this guy considering all their superstars on D. we have the money, we need to do whatever we can to get this guy. we saved a lot of money by signing bryan thomas during the season. now get this guy. for those who want lance briggs, just remember that he is not a 3-4 OLB, and he is 6'1 240lbs. he would play ILB in our scheme and would be out of position as an OLB, just as hobson is. we actually drafted hobson ahead of briggs that year in the draft. i originally was skeptical about trying to get a. thomas but he is truly a beast. we need to offer this guy a 5 year contract worth 35 million, 12 guaranteed. he would be the missing piece for our D. just wondering what you guys think. we would basically be trading our 2nd rounder last year for clemens and portis which is absolutely ridiculous. unfortunately, the redskins are a moronic franchise and this example makes it apparent. they moved up last year to draft rocky mcintosh who didn't even start for them this season. who the hell moves up in a draft to pick a player and doesn't even start him, especially with their sorry group of players. we would also have our second rounder which we can use to get OL, CB, TE. like i said before, i LOVE where our franchise is going. im so glad that the jets are finally going to be dominant while the giants are doing so poorly. BEAT THE PATS THIS WEEKEND!! J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS!
p The problem with the running game isn't with the RB. Houston/Washington/Barlow can all be good with goood run blocking. Before the Jets think about getting another RB, a blocking fullback (look at O'Neal in SD with LT), a RT, and OG are needed for the run game.
I don't want Portis. He's young but has had alot of carries. I believe the Jet's will make a play for Michael Turner. I believe they can get him for their own 2nd round pick. If Asante Samuel hits the open market look forthe Jet's to make a big play. He is not an elite corner but is a good system corner. I think they will also make a play for Daniel Graham, they like the 2 tight end offense. I would love to get Woodley in round 1 and Robert Meachem or Dwayne Bowe with the Skin's pick.
go after lance briggs; although they probably will franchise him. get someone to replace kimo, look for a speed runningback
The situations involving FA's are so variable (trades, $, cap space, etc) but as far as positions (particularly draft wise) I would hope the JETS address DE, CB, OG, RB, RT
Come on I hate being a critic but two days before a playoff game and this. We got an entire off season for this. ARRGHHH!! its playoff time not off-season time.
I agree somewhat, but Houston/Barlow/Leon are definitely not the answer. No way in hell any of them can be asked to go out there in the final 5 minutes and just keep running the ball and getting 1st downs. I am sick of this RBBC shit.
