people way over react to stuff. like how can someone blame a GM because a player suffered a freak career ending injury. yeah it sucks for us but people need to chill. we know the 2020 draft wasn't great. morgan was a bad pick as was perine. but it was his 1st draft we still got becton and mann. hopefully mims does something and davis is at least decent depth. even if not, it's a learning experience because his 2021 draft was amazing
Because some people will go to great extent to use any misstep to fortify their viewpoint. Damned be real facts.
Well, actually no one. Those are just the type of words the JD supporters-at-any-cost put into the mouths of those who have voiced anything but complete approval of the guy.
Cam Clark we hardly knew ya. Hope you fully recover and the best of luck going forward with your life.
Nobody but then the other people didn't say you said Douglas was at fault for the injury either. I guess they mean your OP saying this was possibly the worst draft by the Jets ever, underneath a link about Clark's injury, which certainly insinuates that Douglas is at fault for selecting a guy who then got injured twice. A bit like the people who liked to blame Mac for picking that WR D.Smith who was forever injured as a pro but not as a collegiate. Anyway just my take on it, not arsed either way though.
In no way was my post implying that Douglas is at fault for an injury. That’s a completely asinine statement that I’m sure some people will try to make and probably have made before, but that’s absolutely not what I was doing. I didn’t even mention Douglas in the post. The simple fact is no matter how you slice it, that draft class was a complete disaster. We are most likely going to end up with one high-level NFL player from it. Maybe a punter (yay) and hopefully a backup LT or competent RT. You can be a believer in what Joe Douglas is doing and has done but also criticize other things he’s done. Not directing this at you but it seems like the people who automatically jumped to “oh now we are blaming Douglas for injuries“ are just doing it out of defense.
When the the topic of this thread used the news of Cam Clark's injury to point out Joe's draft being historically bad (If not the worst) I was being sarcastic by ridiculously blaming Joe D for not knowing ahead of time. Blame sarcasm.
I don't feel bad for him. Players get 'spine contusions' (stingers) all the time. Heck, Payten came back from a broken neck. Nearly every player on every play has a chance of getting 'paralysis'. It's a violent game. I think Clark flew too close to the sun and it affected him. He can't 'play loose' anymore and decided to hang 'em up. Good for him. Plus we really don't want another Dennis Byrd. He'll probably get a nice injury settlement and move on with his life. Seems like a pretty smart young man, I wish him the best.
I’d never heard of him before the draft, so I have no clue, but unless he had an injury history in school it’s hard to blame the GM still, in hindsight, it’s yet another wasted pick from that 2020 draft…
Yeah I can see we have some younger posters here. I’m not saying 2020 was a good draft but who was around for 1984-87 specifically 1986 when out of 12 rounds the only player to make it out of training camp was the first rounder an OL named Mike Haight who turned into a bust himself. The only reason he made the team was to save face for the front office I really believe that. I think the Jets wound up with 2 or 3 long term players out of those 4 drafts combined. Jim Sweeney and Al Toon come to mind but after that? Kyle Clifton I think - I can’t think of anybody else. Of course don’t forget 2014 either…and even after that who is left standing from the 2015-18 drafts?
Please. There are a number of puts sprinkled all over the board on how poor the 2020 draft was by JD. In them they graciously lumped both Becton and Cam as busts for their extended injuries and not seeing the field. There is a difference between a player that didn't perform as in Mims and Perine, fair criticism, but adding Becton and Cam with unfortunate injuries was only to strengthen their opinion of a bad draft with no merit.
All signs point to Becton's weight playing a significant role in his injury recovery time. He allegedly had weight concerns even in college as well. It's 100% fair to count that as a knock on Douglas and his ability to assess character of prospects. Becton failed the combine drug test. JD ignored some blatant red flags and it's coming back to bite him.
There was something said in the call on draft night JD said something, can't remember what it was now, damned memory lol but implied they had discussed a problem and he was not to let him down or something like that.,
