https://www.profootballnetwork.com/is-mekhi-bectons-time-with-the-new-york-jets-coming-to-a-close/ Apparently the front office and coaches are battling on this. Becton looked like a really promising player as a rookie so if this is true I think it’s a big indictment on Saleh who is a nice guy, but terrible coach. My $$$ is on both Douglas and Saleh being out the door along with Becton and Wilson after the 2022 season.
Jets FO has got to think about it if they are offered a #1 even if its down in the 20's. Another possibility is a straight trade for DL or LB starter.
Still more hearsay, but it is starting to rack up. I'm not sure how accurate this article is though. It straight up says Becton is a known quitter who taps out of practices and games, and that Mims wont be on the team next year. Are we really at that place? If we are this is where JD can show his skills and hopefully cash out on them. But I'd still have to see it to believe we're going to dump picks 1 and 2 from last year.
I'd bet Mims is gone after this year. Mehki is definitely on thin ice. I don't think I've heard so quips about having the right mentality than I did when Saleh was talking about him. If he shows up out of shape to start next year I think it will snowball for him here.
Mims might not make the final roster in 2022 but he’s sure as hell going to be on the 90 man training camp roster. Any time someone says a drafted rookie contract won’t be on the team next year is pretending they know what’s going to happen 8 months from now… So yes they are full of shit. Becton known as a quitter in games and practice? Isn’t this the same guy who “reported” Joe Douglas was very scared of getting fired this off-season?
Douglas should have drafted the couch that Becton and his father was sitting on during draft night, that couch has stamina just to survive that evening. Put that on Wilson’s left side and nothing will get near him.
Unfortunately its not out of the realm of possibilities as it could explain Becton not making it back onto the playing field despite a 4-8 week injury forecast after the 1st week of the season. If it is true --- where the hell were the psych evaluators telling the FO to stay away from this kid coming out of Louisville??
Duke Manyweather is the best private OL coach in the business. He essentially has his choice of clients. I could be wrong but I doubt very much he’d put up with a quitter. I’m not buying it.
I think Pauline doesn't know anything more than any of us and is writing out of his ass. I also think most of what he's writing about Becton and Mims is true.
I think the coaches wanting to stick with fant is believable, I think the battle lines being drawn and division among management is wild speculation aimed to pacify the lol jet fans
