We've got to tie this guy up for the next 5 or so years. Him and Mangini are a hell of a team.

It's nearly impossible to restrict an OC for taking a HC job... no one would sign that contract if their career path restricted them from taking the next step

Correct me if I'm wrong but we dont have to let them talk to him. Not that the Jets would do that but dont we have to give them permission since he's under contract with us.

True.. but I don't know of a team that prevented a OC or DC from interviewing for a HC job... bad for morale

I'd see the Falcons hire Cameron before Schottenheimer. But hey you never know, we did hire a 35 year old with just 1 year of coordinator experience around this time last year.

Don't forget that Mangini had spent time in the Jets organization. He and Tanny knew each other as well. I think Mora sr was right... Vick is a coach killer. IMO, both the Atlanta job and the AZ HC spots are filled with land mines. I think Schotty would be better off waiting another year, but i understand the temptation. Even if he went to the Falcons and failed, he'd be a shoo-in for another OC spot, so maybe the risk is minimal.

Maybe Marty wins the Supe this year, retires, and Brian goes out there to succeed him. He has experience with their offense, and has lived in the area.
Or maybe the Jets win the Supe this year and the Falcons aren't the only ones who have BSchott on a short list.

That's a distinct possibility, especially if Cam Cameron, who I think is the better candidate for Atlanta, leaves.

On the other hand, we all know that Schottenheimer (Marty) and A.J. Smith hate each other. Would Smith allow for a heredity hand-down? Over his dead body, I suspect.

Blank is still pissed as hell at the Jets for getting a first round pick out of him for John Abraham.

Don't put the Schottenheimer to Atlanta rumors to rest until the Falcons have gotten their guy. If nothing else they'll run the rumors all through the playoffs to be a minor distraction to the Jets.

Tannebaum and Mangini for being "unprofessional" whatever the heck that means. Blank was steamed right after the trade.

And I take the point about it being his fault, but how many people are blind to their own and wield a thick magnifying glass when looking at others?

Few, if any. Nonetheless, I hope the next seven years he owes Vick can dry his Abraham tears.

I hope it doesn't happen, of course. But I'm sure Mangini will find another kindred spirit somewhere to keep the O rolling if it does.

It's kind of amusing to think of Vick trying to run the Jets' offense. Totally different skill set than Chad.

Maybe the run and shoot is the right idea for Atlanta, as was pointed out before. Don't even have a playbook, just let Vick improvise on every play...

There's no way to keep Schottenheimer longterm. The question is do the Jets get 3 years out of him or not?

We have started a trend, I wouldn't be shocked if Schott has a shot at the Atl job or any other job.
