I guess theoretically he did a good job at eating the ball with intense pressure rather than trying to be a hero and making a bad play worse. I think one of the differences between White, Johnson and Flacco and Wilson thus far is that the former three recognized when they were going to be facing a blitz against a free rusher and tossed the ball calmly out of bounds OR were able to help the offensive line adjust the protection appropriately. Wilson ends up being under extreme pressure because neither of those two things have happened. It’s easy to see now as we have alternative views of different players at the same position who got decent pre-snap reads on what the defense was sending. Has Wilson been under a lot of pressure? Yes. Is some of that his fault? Definitely.
I'm going to cut ZW some slack for the interception. Sure it was a bad decision, but on the broadcast they showed an angle from behind and Johnson was looking at him as he scrambled but turns away to engage blocks as he assumes Zach is running. Or so it looked to me anyway. I suspect this is a not having enough chemistry thing - Mahomes does this stuff all the time and his skill players are alert for it.

The kid’s confidence is shattered IMO. Whoever that coach was that talked to him after the 2nd 3 and out In the first half seems to calm ZW a little. ZW was better in 2nd half. He moved the chains yes it was mostly good running. He did hit couple of wide open passes. And yes he missed some short passes etc. yes he held the ball a few too long at times. But agree with NC there he’s a rookie, which I am not going to label he sucks. At the same time, it is a little concerning on his accuracy and for me there were few chances he could have scrambled and may have gotten a first down. He did scored nicely on the run. I know he s not a scrambler like Fields and Lamar Jackson but I thought he can run.
So we should have thrown the ball when we were trying to kill clock and the running game was clicking on mostly all cylinders? Smart. This is your problem, not reality.
What I want to see is Michael Carter and Austin Walter in the game at the same time. Yes they are similar sized backs but both are extremely versatile, Walter got used a ton in the slot at Rice, those 2 guys on the field at the same time could motion all over the field, set up Jet sweeps with Moore and Cole, etc. Plus just having that compliment of speed available in rotation for the backfield could be an advantage.
I don't love his style, but DJ is usually a pretty solid voice of reason considering this is his first year on the beat, isn't from NY and has no agenda (yet). His perspective isn't tainted:
It wasn't really an audition. He was with the Niners last year, so Saleh and LaFleur know him, and he was here in TC.
I think it is a bit too early to proclaim Mac Jones a steal of the draft. If you switched Wilson with Mac between the Jets and Pats, I could see Wilson having a much better season than Mac. Do you really think Mac would have been a better QB for the Jets than Wilson?
Too early to declare busts or steals. But Mac has been decent, especially for rookie. He is learning not to make mistakes/turnovers. He is efficient and making good reads. And executing the throws. He seems to be gaining confidence, and CS seems to be giving him more slack. Trending in right direction, but time will tell. Same goes with declaring Zach or any of other 1st rounders as busts.
