There are so many great posts, insights and fellow fans on this site that make great sense...and it never seems to make a difference! Management, coaches and most specifically our team philosophy just doesn’t ever seem to be working. So why not just flip the script and do the opposite of everything we’re doing...F-it. Let’s just Jerry Jones it and go buy a championship. Let’s trade away the farm and get a legit QB (D Watson), lets go trade away all our garbage and pay millions to franchise weapons...at least one or two. Hell, we just got beat by Allen and Diggs alone. Let’s go buy quality! Not a Bell or Davis or old shit. Let’s go get Chandler Jones. Tampa did it. Rams are doing it (minus yesterday). Young pups and cheap building for years to come hasn’t worked for YEARS, decades. Again, F-it, lets do the opposite of what we’re doing and buy some fun.
I don't know if you noticed, but they been trying that route, for a few decades now, this is a new route for the Jets, building from within, it doesn't happen overnight, its time consuming long process, especially when your can't draft worth a shit.
Then why do it? Sure they've brought in some veterans here and there, but not on the scale as suggested by the OP which is the "George Allen" method of building a team. Allen disdained rookies, so he traded his draft picks for proven veterans. He never won a SB but his teams went to the playoffs 5 of the 7 years he coached including one SB appearance. I think a lot of Jets fans would take that record over the futility we've seen over the last ten years.
You should look at the old Deshaun Watson threads during the offseason--there were guys happy to trade the equivalent of 9 #1 draft picks for DW--and that wasn't opposite thinking.
What really got me thinking about this was watching last week how 2 top notch guys could really impact the game significantly ( Allen/Diggs). Those two cooked us. I believe an NFL team is only as good as their qb. Unfortunately I’m just not a ZW fan. I want to be, but I just don’t see it. You don’t need to come back with, “ it’s too early, he’s still young, he’ll get help, etc, etc). It’s just my gut feeling. We can do what Arizona did with Rozen...cut bait. Admit it was a shot, albeit a one year try, and go get a real NFL qb. And so on and so on...PROVEN vets. I’ve been a draft and build guy. I understand the rebuild approach....I GET IT. BUT THE JETS DONT. We’ve been rebuilding for over a decade! Ohhh, but it hasn’t been JD. How’s that working out? I see nothing resembling a solid foundation of continuity. I like what he’s tried, but...IDK, that’s why I posted a different point of view(the opposite). At this point I’d take 5, 6 , 7 wins...Hell, the winless Lions are more competitive than us and better to watch.
