I know....another thread in the long line of the Randy Moss debate...but...I wanted to add my perspective to the discussion as well...so with that said.... Here's something that doesn't come as a surprise to anyone but players want to WIN! And win badly...they come in early...leave late, nothing new to most of the working class...but lets take it a step farther...playing football at any level is nothing short of train wrecks taking place every play and it's more personified on the pro level. These guys put up with incredible amounts of pain...just look at that Mangold play! But through it all they want to WIN. Lets factor in Mr. Moss here...I live out here in CA and believe it or not...for the most part the media have been very pleasantly surprised with Moss...He wasn't a malcontent at the beginning or even mid way through...but losing wears on different people in different ways. That's not to excuse his behavior the last bunch of weeks but personally Jerry Porter has been the bigger a-hole through this. I think that in one of the other threads a poster really hit the nail on the head...Moss is more or less a media creation...and he hasn't helped with his loose mouth but I don't think he is quite the large ass that everyone makes him out to be. He can be pretentious and he does take a play off here and there....I've SEEN it. BUT, having said that if the price were right I would take a flyer on the guy...there I said it. In discussion threads a couple years ago I was against it...but sometimes age can be a GOOD thing in the NFL. Moss still has top 5 talent and tools and should continue to for the next 3 years. There's something about Chad Pennington and he is the kind of guy that other men will follow and go to bat for. Moss is one of those guys...their friendship, as reported on many times, is a very solid one and clearly Moss respects Penny greatly... The most clear parallel I can draw is to Corey Dillon...he was far more publicized in his dislike for the Bengals and causing issuess. Yet here he is on the Patriots not uttering a word....why....because they win. So, Moss is worth a look....just not an expensive look. I guess time will tell..... Peace! The Mezz
Thats just it.... we can spend our money more profitably elsewhere. For the right price, I wouldn't be averse to giving him a look, but hes gonna cost.
I can see what your saying, just the last thing this jets team is a guy who is gonna put himself ahead of the team or worse, take time off everygame. while the upside is great, i fear the downside could be much worse.
I agree. Let's just end this now and realize that Moss would be a terrible addition. He was at his best when Culpepper threw him those deep jump balls. As much as I like Chad, and this isn't meant to be a knock on him, but I can't imagine Randy happy being in a weak armed dink and dunk offense. Mangini has this team going in the right direction. The last thing we need is some whiney quitter to enter the locker room and start causing problems. LC and Cotch are great anyway. No thank you to Randy Moss. Let's concentrate on obtaining a feature back.
Why does everybody want Randy Moss, the Jets already have a good WR tandem (Coles and Cotchery, with a Rising Star in Brad Smith). There is more improving to do on this team then WR.
thank you nice and simple. and the mezz didn't right all of this in the other thread because........................................
No team wins all the time. Moss is a big baby. Think about the Miami game - the Jets were stagnant and couldn't get anything done. But they toughed it out and pulled off the win. Moss would have given up at halftime. He would have given up after the Buffalo. The guy just gives up.
If we do get him, which we won't, we have to have taken care of the RB problem first. I don't wanna decrease our chance of getting a potential number 1 back.
Eh I with the rest of the people, I don't want someone here that when things go wrong they don't want to work, I am pleasantly surprised that our WR duo is one of the best in the NFL already, all we would really need is a burner type player who can break one if given space.
TO and Moss are completely different. TO is a huge distraction, but on the field he comes to play and will give everything he has. And in his strange way, he really wants to win. Moss, you never know what you are going to get from him. Sure, if we are winning he might be a nice fit and play hard. But you can't just assume that it will happen. Not every year is going to be like this year, there are going to be times when the team is struggling and there's a lot of adversity. Not sure if I want Moss around during those times. Plus, lately he hasn't even been a great player with a bad attitude. He's been an average player with a bad attitude. Is he even the same player as he was in Minnesota? I don't think so. I don't know if he's a #1 receiver anymore. He might just be a decent deep threat and that's it and that's not worth the money he'd cost and the distractions imo.
I'm with Mezz on this one. Moss is not as big a headache as he's made out to be. What has he done? A few risky, yet entertaining endzone dances? And take plays off because he's stuck on a shitty team? The media blows this out of proportion. No one on here can say that they wouldn't be pissed off and get at least a little bit of the "I don't care anymore" attitude if they were on the Raiders. Moss knows damn well that he is still one of the most talented recievers in the league and that his career and record breaking pace got destroyed because he was sent to Oakland. If he was put back onto a good team (not to mention with one of his friends and idols) there is no doubt in my mind that he would get back to his old form. Is it going to happen? No....not with already having a #1 guy in Coles, and a great young player in Cotchery on the team. But I still think Moss is a "creation of the media" as Mezz said it, and can still help a team out tremendously.
He had this attitude with the Vikings too. He's always been a guy who will take plays off, and who won't go over the middle, and won't be as physical as you would like someone his size to be. But he was able to get past that because he's the most physically talented wide receiver ever, and it's not that close. Not sure if he's still as talented as he used to be. He's playing on a terrible team, but he hasn't even been the best receiver on his team. I haven't really watched him enough to know how much of it is his fault, but I don't think people should assume that we'll be getting 1000+ yards and 10+ touchdowns every year from him.
ummm I couldnt find it..... please push the NO button why invest in a guy who touches the ball 10 times out of 60 offensive plays?
I would have liked to have Moss a few years ago, but not now. I think Moss is an awesome receiver when he is on his game, but not sure he would be great for this team. I look at what Mangini has done with a bunch of young players and it amazes me. This guy can flat out coach, and doesn't need to spend big bucks to land high priced free agents just to win. I like the route this staff has taken, and I hope they keep doing it year in and out. Its nice to know that we have a coach that can coach his players to win, instead of a coach that has to buy his victories and play the cap games every other year...
I think that adding Moss would be a great thing under the right circumstances. If we can sign him and not break the bank then im all for it. The behavior thing would not be an issue especially if we are winning. I like what we have in LC and Clutch-ery. But to Moss's credit with Pennington sometimes having issues with throwing the deepball on target, there is no one that can adjust to passes the way Moss does. He would be perfect to help stretch the field. I, myself dont think it would happen, but i wont go on the record saying that i dont want it to happen. Thats just plain crazy talk.
No. Just no. Pull up my posts in other Moss threads if you want my reasoning. Horrible fit here and NY, and now on top of it all he's over the hill and not that dynamic anymore.
