At least Rex had a pulse and a temper. Something Saleh has not exhibited very often. The media and the Homer contingent of the Fanbase are good with this approach no matter what the results are. I guess that makes you a "Real Fan".
When Saleh starts winning some games I'll cut him some slack... You... on the other hand get no mercy from me!
Rex went to the AFC Championship two years in a row with the worst starting QB in the NFL. He wasn't Bill Parcells, but he certainly isn't as bad as the dog shit we've had since. The team had a pulse.
Oh please.. There is a MASSIVE difference between that kind of disappointing outcome and the shit we've endured since. Yeah. It sucked but at least we were fun to watch. At least we were a team that was truly considered to be good. What we have went through since doesn't compare. I will take that disappointing outcome over this bullshit every single year. You can't spin this one. It doesn't make sense.
I'm not suggesting that a 1-15 season is the same as a season where you end up in the AFC championship game. But the ultimate goal is to win a championship. Top organizations think that anything less is a failure. From 1999 to 2015 (17 seasons) they had 9 winning seasons, 3 seasons of .500 and 5 losing seasons. 12/17 of .500 or better and 6 playoff appearances (all the while being stuck in the division with Tom Brady.) In 2013 they hired Idzik and then followed it up with Mccagnen in 2015. The damage those two asshats did to this franchise is going to take time to fix. People lost their shit when the Jets drafted Morgan in the 4th round. How about drafting Hackenberg in the 2nd round?! Or back to back safeties instead of Mahomes or Watson? We had 7 years of complete incompetence from the GM position. You can't expect Douglas to fix that overnight or even in 2 seasons. Anyway, yeah. Those 17 seasons seem like the golden years compared to the last 5. But ultimately I won't be happy going back 2nd place and a playoff appearance every now and again. I want to win a championship and those 2 AFCCG losses were killer. I was devastated.
I am a fan of both and I can't say that's true for me. Perennially losing in the playoffs year in and year out sucks.
Good point. It's true. It didn't last. It only lasted as long as the Jets were getting into the playoffs.
..and I appreciate that sentiment. Only, that's just too far to even conceivably comprehend for most of us, considering just how dysfunctional this team has been. Unfortunately, still Is. I understand what the ultimate goal Is. I think we all want that. I'm just saying.. Realistically, I just want to see them be a good team at this point. Consistently. We have found a way at this point to be the team that Is consistently fighting for the #1 pick In the draft. Instead of the #1 seed In the playoffs. One step at a time Is all I'm saying. I would give my left nut at this point to just be a good fucking team, on a consistent basis. Let the championships come from that, but, we gotta not be one of the worst running jokes In football first.
This coaching staff is so bad I miss Rex Ryan and I wanted him gone thats how bad it is. People can bash him all they want but he managed to take a team with rookie QB to the AFC championship. I bring him back over this mess we have now and don't let him make any draft decisions and bring in a really good offensive coordinator.
The Pats took mercy on us and decided w/ about 3 minutes left to not drop a 60 burger on us w/ a ROOKIE QB. There wasn’t anything “equal” to that during Rex’s era.
2013 Bengals 49-9 was pretty bad especially considering All Pro (not) Andy Dalton lit us up. 2010 Patriots 45-3 was horrendous but he forever gets a pass for that one because he came back and dropkicked them in the face in the playoffs.
