I will get killed by some on this forum for this post--but so be it. 1) Patriots: Our D and running game dominated that game--the 4 or 5 ints single handedly lost us that game. No bones about it. 2) Tennessee: The flashy throws were great but he threw 1 pic (I know the WR tripped but it was still a bad throw) and almost threw another pick 6. Missed several throws that would have ended the game as well--those were easy throws as well 3) Atlanta: Was off all day--throws short and behind. Some of them crucial throws that would have resulted in first downs or touchdowns. Defense stepped up big time in the second half--and even in the first half they were winded from being on the field so much. This was a winnable game with better QB play I've commented in other threads, but I think we can all agree that he doesn't appear to be in the same class as Herbert or Mahomes. Lawrence appears to be on the same track as Herbert--he's carrying that team right now considering how dysfunctional the coaching and roster are. They played good football against top defenses in AZ and Cincy. I think with patient coaching and more talent around him--he's on more of a track of Alex Smith in a best case scenario. Some will say Baker, but Baker had way better accuracy year 1 than Wilson does--and can't use roster as an excuse there because the Browns had nothing his first year. I hope in 2022 or 2023 NC will bump this post and I am very wrong and embarrassed--and for all of the posters here that know me...you know I will gladly stand behind where I was wrong. Just like I took the heat when I was pro Darnold....although that's looking better as of late. Cheers.
Duh. He's a rookie. If you didn't go into this season knowing he was going to lose us some games, then you were being delusional
The Jets have conditioned most of their fans to believe all rookies must look bad and get better down the road but believe it or not some rookies look good or even excel! They even have a rookie of the year award for them! We don't have to expect all our rookies to be bad and lose games every draft class.
Majority do not. Majority struggle and majority do not win rookie of the year. I can go through a long list of nfl rookie qbs who struggled and lost games for their teams
Zach didn't have a good game, no question about it. However, the story of this game was a HOF QB picking apart a young inexperienced defense. The defense allowed Atlanta to go up by 17. That took away the Jets running game and forced Wilson to throw to get the Jets back in the game. He made the same rookie mistakes he made in the games 1-3. At the end of the game, it was more Ryan pasting the Jets D with a late TD to seal the game. Of note on defense was Tim Ward #51. I had to look him up. Made 2 great plays in succession. Where did he come from?
So in 1 week wilson went from a elite QB, to a complete scrub again Wish this fanbase would make up what they have lol
I said the same thing about Ward. I'm really liking the depth and pieces this defense has. Just need more time playing together
I won't slam him for the Titans game. A mix of good and bad is what you want from a rookie. And the good absolutely outweighed the bad. The two other games you're on the money though. Very little good, and a whole bunch of bad. I can give a rookie a pass for getting smacked by Bellichek, but Atlanta sucks. There is zero excuse to look this bad against a 1-4 team Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Not sure who thought he was elite after one week. I wasn't drinking the kool-aid after one half of good football.
Falco, you know I love your posts man! I agree and disagree with you. I think the special ones have shown more consistency early (Herbert, Mahomes, Burrow, Luck, Lawrence)--no doubt misstakes are there and they will make errors, but they show a lot more poise and execute on the foundation level stuff. Just watch Lawrence today and you'll see the difference, I will almost guarantee he has near 300 yds passing today and 3 tds--maybe 1 int. Constant improvement every game. I'm going to be hard on Zach until the ints go way down and he can make the simple throws with more consistency. I really don't like what I see so far. I'm confident in that.
I can respect that. The problem for me for the Titans game was just how many misses he had to end the game (3 of them) and the one almost interception...was a very very bad throw. But yes, if he had more Titan like games--I wouldn't be as worried. But it's not common to have that many explosives mixed in like he did.
Trevor Lawrence has a 66 rating and has looked like shit. 2 games ago he threw 1 TD and 2 INT. Last game he threw 0 TD and 0 INT. In fact Lawrence and Wilson have almost identical stats. Mahomes and Luck are not the norms. At all. Again, Wilson is a rookie. The idea that he would not struggle in his first 5 games is laughable
True. I'm not saying every rookie we draft should be great right away but also doesn't mean we should never expect anything from our rookies. When is the last time we had a rookie even in the discussion for ROY? not that that award means anything but our rookies never play well and I've been hearing the "he's just a rookie gotta give him time" for years on all these guys. I didn't expect much from Wilson I honestly wanted him to sit for like the first half of the year but if he's gonna play every week I want to see some progress of some kind like seriously minimumal anything
I'll give you Zach looked pretty bad today but I'm still more upset at the defense or should I say the defensive game plan for this one
Sam's rookie year (17 TDs, 15 INTs 77.6 passer rating) was normal rookie struggles. Zach has 4 TDs, 9 INTs, and a 62.9 passer rating. That's worse than 2018 Josh Rosen. If Wilson keeps this up, he may well not be the starter next year.
Before the season started my opinion was he can physically make every throw, but can he learn to actually play QB. So far he hasn’t learned how to do so.
