Dude has to get through 13 more NFL games before he becomes a free agent. If the Jets offered him some nice cash upfront he was definitely taking the deal. He has 7 career sacks, not 70.
What makes you think I do not like JFM? I get the feeling that some people here think that speaking the truth about players and the NFL indicates some deep-rooted hostility to the Jets. In fact it just indicates that I understand players and the NFL. I think JFM was smart to take the deal. It guarantees him some real money out of what is likely to be a fairly harsh career that exacts a real toll on his body.
Because your post was full of snide. Normal people would have just left it at 'he was sensible to sign the contract in case he got injured' but you feel the need to tack some negative shit on at the end for whatever reason. That is why you garner the reaction you got but then you knew that when you typed it.
I freaking love this signing! In terms of the battle cry "we can't keep letting players like this go"...JFM embodies that motto...Maye, not so much, JFM, definitely.
Maybe JD has seen the light about stocking other team's rosters with functional ex-jets. We can only hope that's the case when QW's contract comes up.
So far the only functional ex-Jet on a roster is Darnold. Robbie has been functional but about as painfully average as possible. Jamal is still a good player but he’s obviously struggling and when you consider what the Seahawks gave up to get him, then paid him……. I think the light JD is seeing now is not drafting/signing terrible players. Still has a ways to go, see: the last two drafts, but clearly we’re on the upswing.
It's a smart move by JD. Didn't come cheap (13.75 per), but edge is a premier position, and JFM just turned 25. With him locked up, that frees up our franchise tag option too this offseason, and I am pretty sure we will need it. Also, tag for DE is 18 mil, and while JFM is not a top five guy, this is a very good signing.
How is what @Br4d said snide? It was factual. JFM in taking this deal now insured himself against an unfortunate injury happening this season. There’s a lot of season ahead, and it’s not like he has a long track record of success guaranteeing a big contract if injured. it made sense for both sides. This board is becoming super sensitive of any type of Jets criticism, even if just perceived. I don’t get it. We are coming off the worst season in Jets history. You’d think it was the best with the reactions here.
Calling a fat person fat is factual but also snide, I can't give you a better example than that. The rest of your post gives a great explanation for him signing the contract but do you notice the part you felt didn't need saying? I'll give you a clue 'he only has 7 sacks not 70' It didn't need saying in the slightest in the context of congratulating him on signing his new deal, if you can't see it was typed as a negative I can't help you any further on the subject. As for your last sentence, nobody thinks it has been good for a long time.
Maybe having JFM last year led the winless Jets taking out the #1 defense Rams! Which led to Zach Wilson! Thank you JFM
The Jets just signed a promising young player to a huge contract - however it was not one of the cap-breaking ridiculous contracts that individual stars get these days. That's all I was saying. JFM got the contract he deserved and he signed it at one of the earliest possible points he could for all the reasons I listed in the previous post. Most of the reaction I am getting on the board these days is due to people who maybe understand sports but do not really understand the NFL or American football all that well.
