yeah! the Jets HC should coach like teh fans imaginary coah in their heads would coach... that would bring success... jfc
In all fairness, there hasn't been a single Fire Person X thread on the Jets board in a decade where the poster wasn't right.
Fair point but you're not factoring in the evolution of the on-demand instant gratification society we've turned in to.
For the record I’m willing to give this hc/gm/qb combo a minimum of 3 seasons before considering any changes.
Fair, but not all seasons are created equal. Were you willing to give Gase another year? How the product looks getting to 6-11 ends up being more important than the actual results (heavy injuries, lots of one score games, blowouts, young talent development, etc). This year is a wash and whatever happens, happens, but next year really needs to be a 7-10 stepping stone into playoff contention in year 3. NFL rebuilds are not 5 year projects. Teams turn it around rather quickly with a good draft, a new coach and a couple good signings. This year has been exciting though even in the disappointment. There's a relative unknown at work. I knew we were going to be trash the past two years.
No matter the W/L this team is playing exciting football relative to the last several years and that's on the coaching staff IMO. We are more like the Flores Miami team of 2019 that was 0-7 but still playing their hearts out and then turned the corner. Saleh's fate should not be tied to DJ's--he's already showed he's the man IMO.
Saleh's fate has to be tied to Douglas's because good GM candidates don't like having coaches assigned to them; this is literally how we ended up with Idzik, Mac, and Douglas.
Yeah the only thing I disagree with IDF is that Saleh/Douglas need to be shipped out together if/when that time comes. Unless these are 11-6 football teams going 8-9 because Saleh is making atrocious in game decisions ala Anthony Lynn + every Chargers head coach ever. The miss-mosh of GMs and head coaches and stupid organizational structure needs to be fixed. Otherwise I agree - this is similar to that Dolphins team. After the bad 0-5 blowout start those boys played spirited football and I hope we see the same. Saleh could be the worst game manager in the league and he doesn't strike me as the type of guy that players would roll over on like some of our previous coaches.
they always play hard weeks 1 &2.... too early to tell if Saleh is the type of coach that gets his team playing hard every week. Lets wait until its cold, the hits hurt worse and there's nothing left to play for, before we determine if Saleh still gets the team playing hard
Gase was a bad hire, doomed from the start. The only hope there was Sam would transcend the suck. What we have now are a hc and gm that we’re going to be hc and gm somewhere this year, so respected hires and on the same timeline. Along with the rookie qb, everyone is on a nice orderly timeline to let it ride 3 years. After that we’ll see what it looks like but I think that’s the minimum it would take to look like sufficient progress is being made considering the the years of drafts before this that have been thrown away.
So glad we got a CEO type HC who walks the whole field during practice and knuckles all the players. Huge improvement!
