It only truly got loud at the stadium when Oakland went for the 4th down play. I was there and was disappointed that a late try at a "Curtis...Martin!" chant didnt take hold. I would have loved to hear the whole stadium chanting his name out of respect. Guess I will have to wait for "Curtis Martin Day" next year.
Hey Does Anyone Know The Song The Jets Play After A Touchdown At The Meadowlands, It Like A Heavy Metal Rift, Its Awesome
I wanted to start it, but they needed to show Curt on the sideline or wherever he is afterwards. Then it could have started.
The crowd was pumped at the begining of the game and at various points. Those left at the end were very loud and appreciative of this team's accomplishments. But some of the same old stuff happened today that knocks the Jet fans down a peg. First, the place was still 2/3 to 60% empty at the start of the game. A game like this, the fans should be in their seats 10 minutes before kick off and whipping themselves into a frenzy. It is intimidating for an opposing team and energizing for the home team when the teams come out of the locker room into a full loud stadium. Unfortunately, Jet fans don't understand this or don't care and would rather extend their tailgate. Second, the leaving early is really getting ridiculous. How many times as a season ticket holder do you get to celebrate a win and in game like this? The roads were empty today and the game was fast. I was in my car on the way home before 4 pm and I stayed until the players walked off the field. There was no need to leave early and no excuses. The stadium should have been packed to the very end and everyone should have been there to give this team a standing ovation as they walked off the field with the win. Instead, the stadium was 80% empty by the end of the game. It get me that people in front of me in my section - some of whom I didn't see all year - think that being a good fan means standing up on third down. I think it is very important to make noise on third down, but the players don't see if the fans are standing or not. These people, who sit in the first few row, spend the whole game imploring people to stand up. Then they miss the first few minutes of the second half (a key part of the game with the Jets getting the ball ahead 10-3 and driving for a FG) and then leave at the end of the third quarter. Jet fans need to arrive at their seats on time and stay to the end of the game. I don't understand why this is so difficult. Today was a celebration and I enjoyed every minute of it. It's the kind of game that justifies paying all the money for the tickets every year. Too bad so many others missed the fun.
I'd like to start off by saying that I haven't missed a Jets home-game in six years, and I have been seated for kickoff and still there for 0:00 for all 61 of them. I'm that kind of fan, not everyone else is, nor should they have to be. The fact is, the fans are paying the 65-110 dollars per-seat per-game to see their team play, and not vice-versa. The team, the ones we are paying to see, are the ones with expectations, not us. People come in late, because people spend their Jets home-game Sundays as they see fit, mostly with a hefty helping of good eatin' and booze. Packing up the tailgate and getting inside (also consider the 10 minute wait for the pat-down .. you know .. make sure we aren't carrying contraband like posters or musical instruments). Also, I've never seen such a bunch of exaggerators on this forum. The stadium was 75% for kickoff, and probably 65-70% at Gatorade time. Add 5% at any given time for people in the concourses/bathrooms. Here's another thing people don't consider ... a lot of the people that left early ... were RAIDERS fans! Probably 1 out of 20-25 people were rooting for the dark side in this one. The fan's ain't that bad. Most people showed up to this game under the assumption that it would be a 3 hour long making-the-playoff celebration - and that's just how it was treated. And JWWS - Guess it's lucky I have back-row seats, because I'm standing for 55 of the 60 minutes, and I'd love it if everyone else did. I'm using Rutgers games as an example. No one in the student area sits ... ever. And we're more attentive .. and LOUDER.
That's about 3500 Radiers fans by your estimate... That's seems like alot a seats being made available by season ticket holders or whoever... that annoys me more that anything else
I took note of the size of the crowd before and after the game and your numbers are way way off. As for people spending their time at the stadium as they see fit, I agree that is their right, but it doesn't make it right. Why is it so important to stand during the game but not important to be there for the entire game? Arriving late and leaving early are, to me, the ultimate indications of lack of passion (other than not showing up at all). As for the standing up part, people have reasons for everything. First, I am not a college student and haven't been for 25 years. While I am still in shape ( I run every day), I am getting to age when I don't want to imitate a jack in the box during games. I also disagree that standing up makes a difference. I have the ability to yell and sit at the same time. It's the noise and not being on your feet that gives opposing offenses trouble. I don't know about you, but I don't stand up on 3rd downs when I watch on TV. Should I??? It will make about as much difference. More importantly, I bring my 12 year old son to every game ( and he is as passionate as they come) and when people stand on 3rd down, he simply can't see. He has to stand on his seat just to have a fighting chance to see the play. I paid $75 for his seat and he has the right to see just as much as everyone else. That is why I prefer people in front of me not stand during the game. I also consider the standing some sort of "look at me" showboating. But let's forget it - this is deteriorating and I'd rather celebrate the win and th pressure cooker that we have put the Pats in for Sunday.
The crowd was terrible as usual and the building was empty by the end of the game. We don't gte these moments to clinch playoff berths at home very oftent, I don't get why people couldn't stay untol the end.
Because they're not true fans... there are quite a few Giant fans who couldn't get season tickets for them back in the day and got ours instead, so the either sell them to who ever, don't show up or leave early, leaving true Jet fans on waiting lists... I can't wait for the day that abomination of a stadium is leveled, I'll be sure to have a front row seat on that glorious day...
I don't buy that giant fans excuse, I have heard that for a long time but at various points in time we have had tremendous crowds and giant fans wouldn't be making our crowds great. I think it was a little of a boring game but that should ahve been insignificant, it should have been a GB '02-like crowd but instead we got a ho-hum regualr season croed.
Not true at all... That is BS made up by GIANTS fans and Radio. Pure BS. JETS Seson tix holders bailed and sold early in the season thinking 4-12. Yesterday, there were more than usual this year because many scraped up tix. The early leaving was based on fear of traffic through NYC since most of Midtown was going to be closed many feared hrs. of traffic and couldn't afford that since it was NEW YEARS EVE. Being the game was already in hand @ 23-3 they headed out.. I'm not going to blame them for this one, I still blame the Season Tix holders who bailed on "Their Team". That is inexcusable!
You're right there's been great crowd games... and I'm admitted Giant despiser, bordering on being an unheathly obsession with it...but it is an issue... it's getting better but what other reason could there be for real Jet fans on a nice day leaving before they can see their team celebrate a playoff berth... the game may have been boring... not for me, and I watched it at 7 pm and was nuts, but that doesn't account for "fans" leaving before the celebration... It just makes no sense to me
Any Jet fan, season ticket holder or a Jet fan who bought from one leaving for fear of traffic when their team is about to clinch a playoff berth is not a true fan... and do I have any real proof of the Giant fan thing... No... It's just a feeling I've gotten being in the stadium, that's all
I was there and the crowd was loud when Oakland had the ball. The Jets play a style of offense that's methodical and puts opposing teams and fans to sleep a times. But lets face it. The stadium isn't any louder for Giants games, I have been to those as well, it's a very sterile located and stadium. Not much character at all.
Fear of traffic is one thing, but fear of Missing a New Years party because you couldn't get home or meet up with the wifey in time to go is another. Just like you, I despise when they leave early. I've posted it several times in other threads, IMO though yesterday was an exception. The Stadium was Near capacity during the game, many didn't come and some left early because -New Years Eve... As for the rest of the season, there is no excuse for season TIX holders to bail.. Those aren't true fans. Those are front runners (ala Ohio Pork). They only support their teams when they win, not during rebuilding? That is ridiculous.
I worked in the city yesterday... I zipped in and out... The traffic from the New Years Celebration is a fraction of what goes in and out of the city on a normal day... plus it was a 1:00 game... maybe If it was the NBC game I could see your point about the Holiday... I do agree with you on everything else though...
I heard a few guys who went to the game Zipped through also, a few didn't but even if there was no traffic it was the fear of Gridlock. When they come to the stadium from Queens, LI, Bklyn, Manhattan etc on New Years Eve... There is definitely a Fear of traffic on New Years Eve. Why would anyone think there would be no traffic? Who Knew?
If fans fears traffic that much, they should give up their tickets and watch the games on TV. If fans had plans for New Years' Eve and couldn't make it home when the game ended before 3:45 pm then they either live 200 miles away or they should give up their tickets. What are you going to remember - the day the Jets clinched or some awful overpriced meal at a restaurant or some silly party????
