If Hall ends up being a good #2 CB or better, that's a steal in round 5. But, I wasn't enamored with any of our day 2 picks last year. Thought we should've gotten a second OL in the 3rd round.
I hope the coaching staff stays with the WCO style passing game early on. The only two players I can remember in recent history that really successfully aired the ba out down the field in their first season player were Luck and Mahomes. And Luck took a fucking beating doing it while Mahomes has Andy Reid opening everything up underneath with the backs. Short easy completions get a quarterback into a rhythm. It's something that used to drive me crazy with Darnold and I don't blame the coaching staff entirely either. This goes for any concept with a flat route in it, but my high school coach used to stress the importance of hitting the flat receive immediately if the inside receiver had any sort of leverage especially on early downs. It's an easy 4-5 yards if the flat defender gives a yard or more of separation. That's a great early down play and Darnold never made the decision quick enough to hit those plays.
Happy with Wilson did last night and I’m excited to see what the OL can do with AVT and the DL can do with Q. Getting Moore back would be great as well. If he progresses fast enough to draw double coverage early in the season it’ll be a game changer. I want to see him run behind the left side of the line as well.
This is one of the most exciting parts of last night's game. We had so many pieces missing yet still looked great all around. I get it, the Giants suck, but AVT was out, Q was out, Moore was out, Lawson and company only played one series, etc. Put it all together and I think we have a really good young football team. I can see us making some noise this year
It was refreshing to see the offense utilize the middle of the field, something we haven't seen in the last two seasons under thou who shan't be named. Also, playaction on 1st and 10 after a long running play, who knew that was possible?
It is important to keep in mind that he was only facing 2s but he made it look quite easy. Much easier than all the other rookies who faced the same. Time will tell how he starts off in game situations but you’ve gotta crawl before you walk and he did that last night.
All the other rookies who faced the same didn’t have their first string offensive line, WRs & RBs playing along side them.
no…it’s yards per attempt…need to do it that way to account for the fact that there will be incompletions that net zero yards. so the Yds/Att metric gives you an idea of on average how many yards you’ll get every time you drop back to pass and the Yds/Completion metric tells you how many yards on average you’ll get for a completed pass at least that’s how I’ve always thought about these two metrics
I really didn’t look last year since the team was so bad so I’ll have to take your word that the draft wasn’t what it could’ve been. This year I did study obviously and I thought it should go QB/Ol/WR for sure then maybe RB which is exactly what he did and all those picks look good right now with the jury still out on the RB pick maybe. Still he grabbed the best LT last year and a few contributors. Even if the coaching staff improved the draft this year that’s still a formula that can and will work if the QB is the right guy.
Let’s just say Allen Robinson, David Montgomery, Darrell Mooney, Jimmy Graham and the like would probably help not hurt Fields or anyone frankly against 2nd/3rd stringers.
I really liked what I saw after watching the game this morning. We actually looked... errrr....professional. Kudos to the coaching staff. DL had some nice push... can't wait to see Q in there. Need to see Zach more... but he looked sharp... had some crispy handoffs on running plays. Huff needs to calm down... it's a long season I see us being boringly good... with most of the high fives coming from our defense. I'd be surprised if we get blown out of many games. Gase left such a stink on this team... It may take a while for me to get my homerism in full swing... But from what I'm seeing out of camp... we're skipping down the sunny side of the street.
I'm so aggravated...I thought I had set up to tape the replay from this morning and it didn't record! Hulu has done that to me on more than one occasion. Oh well. From what I did see of the short replays, and combining that with what everyone has said here, I'm pleased overall. That said, it was against the Giants #2s on "D" and that makes a difference. Still, Zach looked cool, calm, and collected and displayed the arm most of us knew ha had - no matter who you play against, that doesn't change. And he had a couple of clutch passes under duress where he stood in there and made the play. The defense looked good, especially given missing a couple key players, but they did a few breakdowns - to be expected. One big test in the books, now another step up next week. I hope Moore comes back, but only if he's 100% recovered. IDK how the other rookie QBs will pan out, but I'm glad we got Wilson. He looks like the best we've had in decades, maybe since Namath. I think he's well suited to this CS and style of offense.
Perspective my ass! It's his typical negativity towards the Jets downplaying when they play well and have success, and playing up any negatives. He's just a POS.
