    I think from a national & social
media perspective Zach is the one that’s pulling up the rear of the 1st round QBs right now. The outside world is not taking into account Zach is going against a starting defense which includes a very good front 7 and a NY media market that sensationalizes. “Struggles” in NY just ring louder than other cities. I keep reading in here that TL is struggling but places like ESPN & NFLN is giving a different impression. This weekend we’ll have game footage to judge for ourselves where they are all at.

Who can they really compare him against besides Lawrence who is struggling? Not Lance or Fields because they are practicing against 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Ask them. On ESPN, NFLN or social media, they don’t get that nuanced. Wilson will be running 1st string against 2nd stringers tomorrow so he’ll have a better and/or equal set up as the rest of the bunch for at least one week.

I keep hearing about how bad Lawrence has been in camp on this forum and then read about his 21/26 performance with a dime of a 40 yard bomb to Treadwell. So with all due respect I think you guys need to stay up to date with what's going on. Does he get the benefit of working on things and seeing what he can get away with as we've given Wilson so far?

Again - to me camp performances are such a crappy thing to weigh heavily, but just throwing it out there for reference above.

The Jaguars, Bears and 49ers have also taken the much better approach with their QB situation by having competent veterans on the roster to push the young quarterbacks.

didn’t know he went 21/26 obviously that’s progress but the Jags D isn’t much and the documented struggles were definitely real. Last thing I read he’s “competing” for the starting job which could be smoke granted but Meyer had no problem saying they only have eyes for sunshine right along and now you’re going to call him just another rookie competing on the depth chart? Feels weak.

Zach was cruising until he lost his guy in a tragedy, it’s no surprise that he has regressed with all that going on when he’s trying to work things out in pads.

I’m with you on giving competition to a rookie QB but it’s honestly really hard to make heads or tails of that because like I said nobody thought Knapp was going anywhere soon. Would’ve hated to give a big salary to a name backup but yes I would prefer there was some veteran on the roster. On the other hand Josh McCown was a consummate pro and great mentor, didn’t mean a thing.

these guys aren’t machines, every situation is different.

I don’t make too much of training camp or even preseason for that matter. It is all we’ve got to go on but I still say the fight for qb 1 is fields and Wilson and the others are fighting for scraps.

also let’s not forget Jax is still probably really dysfunctional while the jets brought in competent front office top to bottom. That makes a big difference.

have no idea what Frisco saw in Lance he was running that RPO nonsense and never showed me anything.

Mac Jones may be the wildcard. Obviously we know BB can get the job done if the talent is there.

like you said, time will tell. Probably sooner rather than later though. It’s not the same league you can’t touch the qb you can’t touch the wr. Either you dice up a D or you don’t if you’re waiting 3 years to figure out if you’ve got a field general you’re in a lot of trouble.

Also wtf with locking the only thread on the forum worth reading right now. Come on man!

we want to talk Zach we want to talk TC! Let it go where it leads.

I’m all about that Laissez-Faire capitalism.

Cruising? You mean when they were in shorts and helmets while throwing on air? C'mon man. I have a friend that played quarterback in HS and 7 years of minor league baseball. He would light up a shorts/helmet practice (euphemism alert).

Lance looks like he's just a step below as dynamic as Lamar Jackson is running the ball. Maybe not as much shake, but has some more girth. If he has equal arm talent (all encompassing - power, accuracy, etc.) and on the raw side he does, he can win plenty of games with that 49ers roster and coaching staff.

To me, Lance looks like he could be a much better passer than Jackson, but I don’t think he’s in the same ballpark as a rusher (no one is.)

Lance is more than just a step below Lamar in athleticism but agree with everything else.

Welcome back man. We needed you :)

This thread is approaching 100 pages which is the limit before we start a new one. Hence I offered to start two threads after locking this.

First thread - "Training Camp News and Tweets #2"
Second Thread - "Zach Wilson Camp Performance"

That way, the wonderful Zach discussion can have its own thread and Training Camp tweets and updates will be on another thread. Mine was a proposal though. Once we hit page number 100, I can start just 1 thread like this one and we can keep everything under 1 thread. :)

I accidentally watched his story on YouTube and I kinda felt he deserved some respect for battling back to be his college number 1 when it was obvious the coach didn't fancy him to be the #1 at all.

I then gave myself a slap and scrubbed myself clean with wire wool and domestos.

    fuck him.

It is a noble goal to have one thread with just training camp tweets and news stories and then all the other noise in a different thread. That allows one to quickly review what happened at camp over a few days very quickly without having to read all the bickering and fghting over issues that were already discussed and dead 3 months ago.
But, the problem is people will still post in this thread drowning out and diluting the tweets.

Maybe the solution would be sticky a training camp tweet thread at the top. Then let those that want to argue and troll post over issues long since dead in another thread in the main forum.

He did. He was a rising star and started as a true Freshman. His sophomore year started off strong beating TN then he got hurt. I know this is crazy but he actually got better from the age of 18 to 20. Beck and his worth ethic had a lot to do with it.

How much did Fields play his Freshman year? What you have to worry about is a guy getting worse ala Sam D not a kid that got better has he got older. We forget they are kids and kids develop at different rates. I am not sure physically that Zach is 100 percent mature.

There are a ton of kids that get overlooked in recruiting and in the NFL. Some get a chance in smaller schools or an NFL coach takes a chance or because of injury they shine.

My point is the competition thing is not a good guage of Zach's talent level.

With all that being said he has a goodnof a chance to bust as Fields. I think TL has a high bust factor as well. I like kids that have faced adversity and came back better ( Fields and Zach fit this) that means they are strong mentally which I think they will both be successful even if things are not perfect.

We will see. As we know as Jets fans one bad hit and he can all be over. As a optimistic Jets fan I think it is are turn.

I think the worst case scenario is Zach is Kenny O'Brien and Fields is Marino but I think we got the better QB this time.

We can agree that our evaluations of the QB class is different.

Of course football isn't about one game. Nobody said my QB evaluation was based on one game. I was using the postseason as a reflection of their entire college career - and it was a very good reflection of their careers. However, the postseason/bowls are when teams usually face their toughest opponents and their real metal is revealed. Wilson might look like the best player on the field when he is playing small programs with zero draftable talent. That is not something to put a lot of stock in. IMO its certainly not enough to base the #2 pick on.

I wonder what Moore's odds would be if Wilson wasn't a rookie as well. Moore is a sneaky bet to win it but I feel like if he had a good enough year to win OROY it would go to Wilson.

Finally the truth comes out! We all know your TGG posts are widely respected across the sports media world. I did not want to point the finger or play the blame game, but yes. You started the hype! If you had not made those posts, Wilson may have been a 3rd round pick and his Mom would have lost a lot of Instagram followers!
