I should've put struggles in quotations because I agree. Makes sense why he's low on the depth chart considering what he's been through this summer.
I’m confused. The Fields vs Wilson debate is over as it pertains to the Jets; so what is it you disagree with? That I’m concerned with some of things I’ve read & cited?
His route running ability at the moment may not be at the level it needs to be for this offense yet. He’s still a vertical and contested catch threat. Let’s not forget his run blocking. He may be higher on the depth chart later in the season.
Really. Anyone who is worried about this team after listening to Saleh will likely never be satisfied. This man gets it! He not only understands football, but he's a student of physiology and psychology. He's a perfect composite of traits that make up a successful coach. The more I see and hear of him, the more confident I feel that this team is FINALLY heading in the right direction.
I think we'' see a lot of him in red zone situations with mims and davis outside. I'd also like to see a jumbo package at the goal line where we have fant as an eligible TE and he catches a TD
Totally agree. I have a feeling that once we get into the RZ, our 3 WR looks will consist of Davis, Mims, and Moore.
Re: Sabo's comment about "many dangerous throws" by Zach - keep in mind Saleh's point that Zach is testing what he can and can't do, but even when he pushes it, he knows what else he could've done. IOW, it's not like Wilson doesn't see these things, he's just trying to test his limits which is exactly what he should be doing in practice, and I expect he'll do some of this in the P.S. games too.
Wilson has the ability to throw off his back foot and loft the ball far down field. He does not have the ability to do it and get away with velocity throws like only really Josh Allen and Mahomes can do and maybe Rodgers. He is not in that category in terms of arm strength and off-platform throwing.
When a player is not getting away with that stuff that made them a perceived special prospect, does that mean they are still special?
I think he has that ability….the quick arm release and arm talent. It’s about showing and proving it during game action though that’s the difference. Herbert also has the arm talent too.
I don't think so at all. He can throw the ball a mile off platform but I didn't see a ton of consistent darts with velocity when he was off platform in college. It's not a deterrent from being a good player though. Darnold can throw BB's off-platform and he sucks.
Yes, the things you mention that you're concerned about at this stage of Wilson's development. I didn't disagree that you can be concerned or not concerned about anything you want, but I don't agree that these things should be "concerns" 2 weeks into a QB's first T.C.
Darnold couldn’t “teach himself” to not try certain throws in games like Wilson talked about in the vid. Hopefully, he can. Whatever happened to practice how you play on Sundays?
You may be right, but I'm optimistic that Zach will learn when he can and can't do this. I base this belief on having watched and read a lot of comments by Wilson on his own self-assessments, and how he always tries to do better and eliminate mistakes. He seems to be a perfectionist, and is more concerned with getting better than in being stubborn and doing the same think over and over and failing. Based on his career, he seems to apply his lessons well, so if throwing off his back foot gets him in trouble, I expect he'll cut that back accordingly.
Why not just express they don’t concern you or you don’t understand why it’s a concern as opposed to debating if they should be? I wasn’t trying to get anyone to agree with me; just expressing my thoughts.
It's not like throwing off his back foot was what defines him as "special". For me, what's "special" about him is how he plays the game overall, and finds ways to win and succeed - more of his mental make up than physical. It's actually why I though Mahomes was special too (along with an other-worldly arm).
