I'm hoping he can become a Jimmy Garoppolo backup who netted N.E a 2nd round draft pick only 3 years later (despite only 2 starts as a Patriots). And someone made a good point the other day. How every other year N.E drafted mid round QBs while Brady was starting @ QB. I really hope James Morgan lights up the preseason this year and next because then he'll provide JD with more draft capital.
It's still pretty much random sampling because White is not a backup caliber QB, and while Johnson used to be, he isn't anymore. Morgan is the only one with a chance to be a hold the fort QB, and while I have no problem giving him an opportunity in the preseason, if he doesn't play well there, the Jets are going to be in a bind. Especially since there's also the 1000 pound elephant in the room, which everybody's just been ignoring, of what happens if Zach isn't ready to start Week 1. Then what? Jacksonville has Minshew, SF has Garoppolo, Chicago has Dalton, NE has Newton, and we have nobody who can let the team sit Zach.
While you made a very compelling case that Morgan is a long shot to be a starter or even be a very good back-up in NFL, you have to admit that beating two other guys, even if they are practice squad material improves the odds. A lot of the guys on that random list couldn't beat anyone. Also, we don't need him to beat the odds to hold the fort. Say Zach gets COVID, and he has to step in for a few weeks, doesn't beat the odds and plays say like a scrub like Petty. That's not great, but not the end of the world either. And that's probably the worst case scenario for him. But if he plays more solid than that, the upside is there to be set for a good back-up for years to come. Now, if you look at a guy like Josh Johnson, yeah, a scrub to be sure, but he keeps hanging on to NFL practice squads. He did get an opportunity to play and start 2 years ago for 3 games in Washington. He wasn't great by any means, but posted better QBR than Sam just recently for the whole year and even won 1 of these games. Between the best one of Josh, White, and Morgan, we can survive for a few games, there is no doubt. And Zach WILL start, unless he is injured, this is a year for him to get playing time and improve. The scenario where Morgan or Josh would see extended playing time is if he has a serious injury. In this case, I agree, we might have to take it on the chin a little bit, and even if we acquire a better better back-up QB, we are not going to get too far, plus we have a much bigger issue to deal with.
Does anyone who’s been to a green/white scrimmage at MetLife know how parking usually works? I can’t find parking passes on Ticketmaster like for games, is it free?
It does not look pretty tonight for Wilson. Wow. Wow. not sounding the alarms bells but screw Gase man. Hope they’re all happy with that win last year.
I was a big time Trevor Lawrence homer last year. But Trevor Lawrence has looked atrocious throughout the entire offseason thus far. He's looked really bad.
Wilson looked really bad In the scrimmage. Eek. The entire offense looked bad. Not a good look or sign.. ..and no, I'm not giving the benefit of the doubt. I hope they change my mind but I'm not overly optimistic about this season like a lot of Jets fans are.
Here we go, the sky is falling. Relax people this is what training camp is for. Did we expect him to be lights out from day 1? This fan bases up and downs on every throw or practice is ridiculous.
Defense has many veterans except secondary. Offense has a rookie QB, rookie WR, rookie RB, rookie LG etc etc. Not really concerned
I’m certainly concerned. Feel like we’ve seen this movie before. Why is he being handed the starting QB job?
