I know that business is business and JD is trying to navigate thru rough waters right now, including probably some unwanted direction from Woody reference the contract. BUT, there is a time when intangibles like appeasing a long suffering loyal fan base, helping the new HC staff be successful, and above all giving the QB we all desperately want and dying to see every chance to succeed takes precedence over negotiating the most team friendly contract. It's time to put the future of this franchise ahead of the money stream. After all, the money stream has always been far more successful that the product on the field.
Couple of things that stick out to me. We cant say only Jacksonville and LA don't use offset language when Chicago just did it for Fields. We got to remember Zach, Lawrence, and Fields were compared to each other all offseason. Hearing Trey Lance accepted the terms likely means very little to him. He knows his comparisons are Lawrence and Fields. Not giving him the same incentive they got is going to make him feel like he drew the short straw. Saleh's statements in the pressers make it pretty clear JD is working this deal. He continually refers to JD getting it done and trusting JD. Maybe there is more to it then what he is saying but that's the way it sounds. (I'd never doubt the Johnson's ability to muck things up either.) Wilson missing even this entire week wouldn't be that huge of a deal. I know he could use all the experience he can get, but this is a very light walk through week, no pads, nothing too serious. If he is still not signed on Monday then we got a match being throw into a dumpster. I gotta believe we get this done before the weekend.
We need to be fair. I highly doubt Woody is the one who cares so much about these offsets. There is a minimal financial gain for the Jets. As I already explained, the whole point of this is to remove financial motivation from a player to leave the team if he becomes a sub. This is not ownership, this is 100% FO. Now, I am as upset as anyone and admittedly would probably cave, but in all fairness, Lance (drafted 1 spot later, playing the same position, allotted same money) just signed a contract with offset and bonus upfront for nearly identical total amount. I just don't understand why piece of shit agent of Zach Wilson can't take the same exact deal, which has just set the market. If this results in Zach not developing as well, it hurts his client just as much as the Jets if not more. It's the same exact deal as Lance got. Maybe before there was some reason behind it, but after Lance signed it should be over.
I am just baffled how all 31 other teams can sign all their draft picks and we are with 10 percent of camp practices done and no QB signing in Fing sight.
Woo hoo life is suddenly better. Even my natural hate of work zoom calls has receded. Oh who I am kidding I still hate zoom calls. But besides that life is suddenly looking better. Brooke good luck on Saturday. A few Woody sucks please sell the team chants would be appreciated. Maybe a big placard saying Woody Sucks as well. Visual prompts are always good.
Please refrain from even mentioning the Woody. He's been MIA and that's exactly where he needs to stay. Kinda like Candyman...
Yay...Now can we finally get back to football? Hopefully Zach's mom just keeps her mouth shut from here on out and the Kid can concentrate on becoming a Franchise NFL QB.
