I'll stick by the following notion: Vilma may not be making as many plays as he once did, especially against the run. But he's basically the leader of the defense emotionally and schematically. Also, he is our best LB in coverage by far and it's his coverage that allows our safeties and his fellow LB's to be so aggresive w/ blitzes on passing downs. Vilma is still a very valuable commoddity on our defense.
Well I am not talking about this past game, but I know that the Jets have had a problem with his coverage...that is why he lost alot of playing time at CB. He is our hardest hitting defender for sure too so I don't know where you get off saying he is a poor tackler.
I never said he wasn't valuable to our defense...I was simply asking the question, "why hasn't he made more plays like the other LB's."
I honestly think johnathen vilma is one of the best linebackers new york has seen period and that goes for jets and giants. people were saying how they dont think he's built for the inside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme since when have they built and instrument to measure a persons heart. his work ethic is incredible he even got kerry rhodes on his page and had him sit down and review films with him. so much of kerry rhodes success is due to vilma. i dont know if much of you all remember sam mills i believe he was 5-9 playing middle linebacker and he was a nasty as they come for the position. so for people to want him to be traded is plan stupid he has the natural ball hawk skills to make big time plays
We still need a great pass rushing OLB like Woodley or Spencer. Hobson has played great and I think he will be moved to ILB. And we need to replace Kimo. Then we will see D-Rob play even better than he has been and Vilma will start playing better as well.
in the jets new 3-4 scheme is there a weakside and strongside inside linebacker? if so maybe we could switch vilma to the weakside backer. also if that doesnt work maybe we could shake it up a lil bit and have bryan thomas and vilma on the outside and hobson and barton in the middle that sounds like it would work
