Eric Mangini is the best thing that could have happened to the Jets this season, and we all appreciate that. While surfing the ESPN, CBSSportsline, and SportsIllustrated websites however, it is apparent that Mangini is the only one given credit for our cinderella season. Does anyone think that Mangini is getting all the credit and the players need to be recognized as well?
Chad's getting some credit and Schottenheimer too. If you really look you'll see Coles name pop up along with Mangold. On defense people have been talking about Rhodes all season, and Dyson and Thomas and Vilma all get some mentions. They're missing how steady Shaun Ellis has been, but then again he's never been a promoter or put himself in the public eye much so his low sack totals weigh against him unless you're watching pretty closely. Who is responsible for the Jet's strong season? Eric Mangini and Mike Tannenbaum, that's who. But they've had some real help along the way.
I think it's is a statement on just how good of a coach he is becoming. At the beginning of the season there wasn't a speck of optimism from most news sources concerning Mangini. Now he's getting all of the credit. Why? I think it's because we really don't have any stand-out elite superstar players, although I think Kerry Rhodes is developing into one. That means that the press would have to delve into the players more, watch tape and do interviews and learn things and all of that crap is just too much work. They already know a ton of stuff about Coach Jockstrap, and they have no real accountability anyway, so they can just change their stance to the opposite without even blinking. It's easier to give all of the credit to the coach, especially if he ends up having a sophomore slump and they get to jump on him like a pack of hyenas.
its not him, its the media showing it towards him; the players do deserve credit. but most of it should go to him cause of what hes done, basicly turning a 4-12 to a 9-6 team with no name players basicly
He deserves any and all accolades he receives. He has been tremendous, and will only get better with experience.
mangini is the main reason that the team has been as good as they have been this year. the players deserve the credit for execution, but mangini has brought more to the table this year than any one player has. hes not only brought the needed discipline, but hes brought a mindset, and a proven system that the players bought into. the entire coaching staff deserves to be recognized, but mangini above all others because of everything his hiring has brought to the table.
The combination of coaching staff and front office added Mangold and D'Brick. We can also credit the overall organization with Leon Washington, but it took a while for him to get fired up. Brad Smith was picked too, but overall, he hasn't made a huge impact. Otherwise, this is basically the same team that Herm couldn't lead out of a bag last year. You can point to the injuries, but let's be honest. When we won under Herm, it was the players, and mostly Curtis doing all the work. Herm's even proving it out in KC now. Yes, the players have stepped up, and Mangini gives them their due. However, it's Mangini's superior preparation, and great motivational skills that are pushing a team full of overachievers into the playoffs. I have no problem with Mangini getting the bulk of the credit this year. Sean Peyton will probably win COY, but he's got Brees, Deuce, Bush, et al. Mangini is doing this with a team full of almost stars. Not to take away anything from our players, but any honest fan has to admit we are not stocked with Pro Bowlers. Besides, Coles, and Rhodes, and possibly Cotch, who else has played at the level of "excellence" you expect from a Pro-Bowler?
The media hates Mangini and would love to run him out of town because he treats the media like dirt. Now that it looks like he is going to be a fixture around here the ass kissing will begin in ernest.
Isn't this exactly what we were all predicting before the season started? Granted, almost none of us expected it this early, but it's amusing to see it come to fruition.
When your a head coach you are on an island. Mangini knows its players that make plays that wins the game..EM and his staff are GREAT teachers and that what matters in this league..A high level of intelligence is a huge plus for Mangini.I believe Eric went to an inner city school in Hartford which probably gives him a better understanding of the athletes he coaches..It also helps he got to watch two hall of fame coach's work (Parcells and Beli) plus a year with Ted Marchibroda..I think a huge part of his success is his work ethic..nothing left for chance..Players recognize that fact and so they in turn wil work hard..To get 53 guys to buy into what your doing is the KEY to EM's success and its exactly what we have today and why we are in the position we are..GO JETS
Yep. The media's mudslinging at Mangini was a high-stakes gamble and it looks like they lost. Mangini may be the guy who reforms the NY sports media into just the folks who tell the news. It's not gonna hurt that all the tabloids are in trouble right now to one degree or another due to the rapid emergence of the internet. The Post, Daily News, Newsday and any new competitors are going to be competing for a much smaller market and the revenues aren't going to support the egos much longer.
He should make sure everyone knows how "moral" he is and that he has "values". That is what Herm did and everyone respected his "morality" and "value" based decisions. That is why Herm left the Jets a trainwreck and skipped town to get more cash and ruin another team in Kansas City. Because that was the "moral" thing to do!
He hasn't said once that he was responsible for everything. It's the media giving him the credit. "IF THEY WANT TO CROWN HIM, GO AHEAD, MANGINI IS WHO WE THOUGHT HE WAS!!!!"
Well the media praise would go hand and hand with the media saying we dont have anny real star players. If they all beleive that then its natural for them to look at mangini as the Star player for what he's done this year.
And as the Jet's near closer to playoffs, I noticed that there is alot more praise for Mangini (PTI, sportscenter, etc...). Compare this with a few weeks ago when the Jet's lost to the Bills, pretty much everyone was like: there you have it folks, and "I told you so, they will not make the playoffs." As time goes on, there will be more and more segments about Mangini for sure. :hackett:
